Back in the late 90's I went to trade school with a guy who had a HJ Sandman Panel Van. So this build is inspired by my memories of that Pano. I remember it being a twin headlight, so started with this kit. Not knowing the specific colour. I chose SMS paints Salamanca Red as it is similar to what I remember. Bumpers, grill, headlight surrounds, wipers, rear vision mirror, side mirrors, door handles, rear upper tail gate handle and exhaust tips are all painted with SMS Chrome Dark Tone. Bmf was applied to front corner indicators/turn signals, front and rear window trim and tail light surround trim It also had Dragway Indy wheels, so after a search I found these American Racing Gambler rims which are very close to the same as the Indys. Painted with SMS Chrome Cold Tone. Could not remember the details of 1:1 interior, so went with some aftermarket seats that I 3D printed and painted them and the inner door panels Vallejo Mecha off white I recall the engine bay having some chrome dress up parts like the air filter and valve covers. So I modified the kit air filter cutting off the snout, painted with SMS Chrome Cold Tone and added some photo etch mesh And I 3D printed the valve covers and again painted with SMS Chrome Cold Tone, which were sourced from Morries Kustoms. They are a true old school classic dress up part specific for Holden 308 engines. Just a mediocre build for the display shelf 🤣 jokes aside I'm very happy with it being a oob 2 week build.

This build is a special one to me as its inspired and my interpretation of local car that was one of my favourites back in day during the late 90's. And its the reason I like Holden HQ sedans. I only manage to get one picture of it from a local event. My memory of it is pretty vague, but il never forget how it did sound and look. The engine was a fully worked 350 Chev with a Jackson Gear drive, big stall convertor and 4:11 gears. If you know you know. So its absolutely great to have DDA Collectibles manufacturing the Holden HQ's as plastic kits. Ever since the kit was released ive had the idea for this build. Just took time for all the pieces of puzzle to align and fall into place before I was ready to make it a reality. After using this colour on another build, I knew it was going to be perfect for the HQ. I remember the interior being black, and it having a mega shifter so I sourced something similar from Texas 3D Customs . I dont like the front vinyl seats that come with the kit. So I got a file from Black Box and 3D printed new front seats. Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 black was the perfect solution for the look of black vinyl upholstery and the floor carpet is Tamiya XF-1 flat black. Had to modify the transmission tunnel to clear the aftermarket transmission. That can be seen in my Lead City Customs build thread I 3D printed the steering wheel, the file was from Black Box. Main feature of the 1:1 car is the wheels. They were Dragway Pro Wheels but there is none available in scale. So similar wheels that I have always liked are Weld Racing Draglites so I sourced them and the BFG T/A tyres from Morries Kustoms and I 3D printed. Wheels are painted with SMS paints Hyper Chrome Cold Tone. Headlight surrounds, bumpers, wipers, door handles, side mirrors, rear vision mirror and exhaust tips were all painted with SMS paints Hyper Chrome Dark Tone. BMF for trim and grill surround trim. The kit has the Holden 308 engine, so that was replaced with a 350 SBC which was sourced from Texas 3D Customs. But the air cleaner supplied with that engine was too tall for the engine bay, so I replaced with one I found in my parts stash, no idea what its from. Had to do a lot of cutting, modifying and build a new fire wall to fit the aftermarket engine. That can be seen in my Lead City Customs build thread Air filter and valve covers painted with SMS Hyper Chrome Dark Tone I 3D printed the distributor and coil. And finally with typical rev-head bogan behavior, have to put the stockies/steelies on to do some burnout outs. Cant afford to be shredding BFG T/A's 😄

Like I need to start another build. But DDA collectibles continue to manufacture new kits of Australian cars. This time around the newest release is a ute 😁 So as always with my builds it starts with the stance. Out of the box mock to see where its at. And get an overall feel for the kit and its design. Good to see in this kit that the bumpers are chromed from the factory.

In Australia we have a car culture where we build over powered cars just to burn rubber for fun and competition. Its an Aussie thing. And DDA collectibles has a HQ Holden kit which is very similar in style to a Burnout car. So with those things in mind, I set about building my interpretation. With the engine being the main focal point, I change out the kit supplied rubbery vinyl plumbing and wiring. And replaced with some Top Studio Detail-Up parts. Replaced the oob seats with some 3D printed items from Platinum Scale a ebay vendor. The rear steel wheels I 3D printed are from Model Design found on cults3d, burnout tyres are from the DDA Kingswood kit. Installed a @Texas_3D_Customs shifter I 3D printed a fuel cell which is from my good friend slowysmodels which can be found on his cults3d profile. Used aluminium tube for the exhaust. And when these cars are not burning rubber they are usually on display with the rear show wheels. Which are from the DDA wheel set, 5 spoked chromed. Paint is Panther Mica from Outlaw paints. My apologies for the quality of the photo's, They were taken with a phone. I will make sure to take some with a camera and replace where needed.

Once again something different, this time a build inspired and styled from Australian Street Machines. Basically out of the box build. Just a change of wheels, which are 3D printed items from Jays resin wheels on ebay. Aftermarket front seats from Top Studio. Texas 3D Customs shifter. Steering wheel from Platinum Scale on ebay Paint is Acid Rain from The Scale Modellers Supply. Interior paint is Vallejo Mecha light green. Alclad chrome on the bumpers, grill, headlight surrounds, door handles, side mirrors, rear vision mirror and wipers. Engine components painted with Alclad Polshied Aluminium. Wheels were painted with Zurc Zuper chrome Bare Metal Foil for the trim.
