Scale I Build

  1. Brass built replica, finished 2020. With the exclusive help of the Snizek Family (builders/owners), 100s of exclusive digital photos showing every stage of the new (replica) car from late 60s. Very intense project. I was not allowed to post w/o family approval! Step by step, first show my build, then wait for approval. This is the finished brass model w/ full family approval. I will not show the original photos of the real build. Here the finished, real car, with founder/builder Mr. Snizek and son Scott, now the boss. Getting started, the tub, from original Ford diagrams, just using more side reinforcement, knowing that bending brass sheet over the tub will need some force applied.... The chassis, was well known and used by many from back in the day. Some interior work... Chrysler Imperial 8 3/4 rear end, 1958... Now the front end. This was dramatic, being the most difficult front suspension I've ever built. Scott only showed 1 step at a time, knowing if it's not right, then the project closes down. I had agreed to these terms at the very beginning. This was the most intense endeavor, going on for a month. Read, back in my best days, working daily on a project! Only 1 photo now....too intense to do a step-by-step photo session.... Front 12 spokes... Body. Now the reinforced tub need to play out... Here the cowl. This was not fun. Needing a concave bend that reaches downwards... The 'turtledeck'.. Here the famous 'hump-back' for which the Pacers were, still today, recognized.... Door molding.. Cover. Motor. 100s of photos, block and some parts are 3d printed, many are my brass additions. Here are 3, keeping this topic short as possible. 1. head preps.... 2. Injection ... 3. All done.. Closing now.... White car... The last photos show a later date. The model was finished late 2020. My best car model to date, cannot do any better. Thanks for viewing, Mike..
  2. I don't believe there are many 1:16 Fiats out there. This fellow, Nahuel Gomez, prints nice bodies. This one needed other than the usual sanding/smoothing, very little. The rear was radiused though to fit the slicks Revell better. The chassis was copied from the owner's own project, with his approval. His Fiat is an all metal beauty, even has a dashboard! Donovan powered, the car was fired up for the first time this past spring. The model was finished end of February.
  3. Our friend @Claude Thibodeau recently posted a Deuce he put together from miscellaneous parts, and it inspired me to try my hand at something similar. To begin with, I pulled out my favorite AMT parts pack and fished out their beautiful hot rod frame assembly. It went together great, and begged to be left in all its blingy chrome glory. Next up was the Chrysler hemi and rolling stock from a partial AMT kit I had laying around of the Corvair Chezoom funny car. These parts could also have come from their Barracuda "Hemi-Under-Glass" which shares the same underpinnings. The parts dropped in with very little alterations and looked totally in place. Adding spark plug wires really added to the realism of this awesome looking engine. Finally, the body came from an AMT Custom and Competition parts pack. The trickiest part here was creating floorboards and a tunnel from scratch, along with shortening the trunk. Since this dragster was to be named "Snake", I chose a color palette from a copperhead. When completed, this model looked like it was always made to go together with these parts.
  4. It's been quite some time since I was here, but it looks like this drag racing forum sure picked up speed! I could remember an echo in here, now there's folks taking and posting 1/16th (my fav) Just a shout out to two incredible time consuming builds by Mooneyz and Vintagedragfan....the Calif. Charger and the Army F/C are UNBELIEVABLE......makes me want to sell a car and buy a lathe, but then I would NEVER come out of the shop. I thought I knew detail, but I don't I was lucky enough to grow up in the golden years of drag racing, and my dad worked with a lot of racers, our home track was Fremont, and I saw ALL the iconic cars of the day....I am also old enough to actually have bought the Revell 1/16th models off the shelf when they first came out. It is SO good to see how many people have found this hobby again.... Anyway, to get to the reason of the post. I have been stockpiling parts and pieces, and am feeling the need to start building again, so I thought I would hollar out to any folks with photos of a few cars. Mike Sullivan's Fiat Fuel Altered (the blue one) Prudhomme's or McEwen's Hot Wheels FED's (Snake - Mongoose - for search purposes) Howard Cam's Rattler (the orange FED that slixx made the 1/16th decal set for) What I have is a good collection of drag cars....all sorts, floppers and rails mostly, name drivers, unique cars, I have some I have taken myself, but most are from years of collecting from the NET.... I also have very high quality digitals of drag boats and a lot from the pits for details if anyone is doing a drag boat model.... anyway, so good to see the hobby going well, and I look forward to watching a few builds take place..... ps.....has anyone done the JT-Graphics 1/16th Hot Wheels Snake or Mongoose build? (that's why I would love some photos of those cars!)
