Attended the IPMS Craig Hewitt chapter's Modelzona contest. This is my report, focused on the automotive theme classes, and of course the classes I entered. These are my favorites too, not into taking hundreds of pictures, you can see them on the Modelzona website later. All the competition was tough, all were worth study, seems like I've seen a few on this forum, so please say something if you attended! This class early on: They split it when more came in: Competition straight line, I know everyone thinks 1/4 mile drag race, but I had to be a contrarian with the 188 mile open road racer. Competition closed course, I know roundy round paved race track is the intention, again I'm the contrarian with the very long off-road rally. Custom, I know everyone thinks shiny American hot rod, again the contrarian with some foreign thing with flat paint! Think this was another class for street machines, I just love the color! Commercial class which I didn't enter: Big scale: Another class which I avoid just because it's so popular. ? Fellow club member built this, my Coke cooler: Watched the judges, it's a tough job but someone has to do it. When they placed TWO medals on my Stealth Indy Beater, the guys looked at me like "what the ...", I said that I can't do shiny paint jobs like them! ? My only military entry was overshadowed by really REALLY awesome masterpieces. Happy with this, considering I entered 7 models. Enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow competitors, this shall encourage me to butcher more models. Thanks to the IPMS staff for running a great show!

Since I haven't actually finished a model for awhile, but had the time to enter the IPMS Modelzona contest, I'm pleased to say it was worth the trip! I also entered some military models, but I didn't expect anything.
