Bennyg Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I'm replicating a 1968 vw beetle in 1/24 and the engine cover on the real thing has air vents. I'm using the revell 1/24 1968 beetle and its engine cover is smooth. What would be the best way to replicate the air vents? I was thinking scribing them in. Cheers Ben
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Scribing would be the best way. I might do it on mine for a project since I decided not to use it.
Foxer Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I'm not sure what version of the '68 you had down under, but the new Revell '68 is the European model. The American '68 Beetle had different bumpers, tail lights, headlights and some other parts. All of these are available on the new Revell '70 Cabriolet, including a vented engine lid. Here's a photo of the '68 with the Cabriolet engine lid on it .. perfect fit. I have both so did a quick tape up and crappy photo. but you can see the perfect fit (including hinges) and the vent pattern.
Bennyg Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 I'm not sure what versions they released in Australia. I think you're right Foxer. It looks more 1970 to me as well looking at pictures. Cheers Ben
Bennyg Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 I'm going to get the revell 1970 convertible to get the parts from. Thanks Foxer and Miles. Ben
