Dave Toups Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 To anyone who has Australian Cavalier resin kits. You might want to open them and check them. I hadn't looked at mine for a while and today I found that in some, the tires had melted into a thick black goo! This is made worse by the fact that they pack the tires in with other parts, so I now have a pile of parts covered in sticky black tar-like stuff that I have to try and figure out how to get off. All of these kits have been stored indoors, so it's not a heat issue.
Roncla Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Its not the first time i have heard of this happening with their kits. There is obviously an issue with the material they are using. It would be a good idea to contact Cavalier and advise them so they can address it.
BTK Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Wow, that sucks. As for the tar covered parts, I believe soaking them overnight in 91% rubbing alcohol should let you peel that stuff right off.
scummy Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) Would the alcohol affect the resin ? Try putting the bits in the freezer for a couple of days and see if it peels off then . If you check your models and they are ok , i'd put them in a plastic bag seperate to the model . Mine went off about two years ago , if you look else where on the forum you will find we had this problem before . Edited May 26, 2015 by scummy

As for the tar covered parts, I believe soaking them overnight in 91% rubbing alcohol should let you peel that stuff right off. I tried the 91% alcohol. for some of the small bits of "stuff" it helped to wipe it off. I tried soaking and it seemed to affect the resin, so I took everything out and dried it. I also tried some Super Clean, but so far that's having no effect. I may try the freezing thing. The tire goo doesn't seem to have bonded to the resin, it's just to soft and sticky to easily peel off.
carsntrucks4you Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Yes those tires are a night mare as long as you have something that looks like a tire in the kit. I have all of them an in 5 of these kits the tires is black sticky fluid. I also have in somekits like the Torana LX5000 resin tires. Either some of the previous owners of this kit changed them with resin ones or like in the newer ADR Distribution kits there are where delivery with resin tires. I also find out on the 3 that I had build the the tires look like a tike but they stick to the under ground.
