Belair64 Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Hey all, took a break from 1/24 kits for a while but son wants to start the 1/12 Tamiya F1 kits we have stashed. Not sure where to find detail stuff for this scale. Clear fuel line, black hose, wiring etc. is there a good source in the U.S.A for this stuff ? Thanks for any help.
Belugawrx Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Check out Detail Master or Best Balsa Kits They should have what you need
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 As in other scales, if you know what diameter hose or wire you need to represent, the craft store or Radio Shack can be your best friend. If you know the diameter of a particular hose or wire in 1:1 (full size on the real car) just divide by 12 to get the correct diameter in 1/12 scale. And because 1/12 is twice as large as 1/24, you can just double the diameter of what you'd use for a 1/24 scale model.
Belair64 Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Thanks guys. I have used Bestbalsa and Detailmasters. The hollow tubing is the hardest for me to find. I have used the craft store before and will head over and take a look and see what I can find. Radio Shack used to be my friend but they have closed most of their stores that were close. Model Factory Hiro has quite a bit but was trying to stay in the country. I think I have a chart here on size conversions.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Clear fuel line isn't going to be appropriate for an F1 car anyway. I've found some nicely textured black bead-stringing material that looks great for water hoses in 1/24, in various diameters; it should work for fuel line in 1/12 if you're doing car with black-fabric AN hoses. I've also found some smooth rubber stuff that again, makes great water hoses in 1/24. Should have applications in 1/12 as well. With the variety of beading wire diameters available, plug wire material ought to be a snap. Online electronics supply houses and ebay also have small-diameter wire. WAY cheaper than buying the packaged stuff. Craft stores also often have silvery-braided material that makes a really good looking representation for braided stainless Aeroquip hose.
Mooneyzs Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 You need to look into RB Motion... Robert does alot of stuff for F1 cars Plus you won't get any better A/N fittings from anyone other than him. His parts are the best in the business. Also as for aBraided Line goes... Pro Tech hands down is the best and very compatible with RB Motion fittings. A few other aftermarket companies for F1 stuff would have to be Studio 27, strada sports and top studio.
Belair64 Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Thanks all. Ace you know that makes a lot,of sense. The old Tamiya 1/12 F1 cars with Ford/Cosworth DFV engines come with clear hose. The fabric AN seems to be much more appropriate. I have a Michaels nearby. I may have to go fight with the craft ladies and find some of that beading string ! Great idea. Never used AN from RB Motion but looked at their site and they have some fantastic stuff . Math was not my favorite sublect but I think I can manage the 1:1 to 1/12 .
Belair64 Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 MFH has clear hose. Definitely going to need it for Honda Ra271 and the DFV engines. Injection must have been fairly low pressure.
