nkempf99 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I'm working on the 2008 dodge challenger srt8. The ignition coils say hemi on them and I'm having a tough time getting those painted red and having each letter actually stand out. Any tips on getting that done?
Kit Basher Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) I feel your pain! I have been working on that same kit for a while, and even asked the same question you did on this forum. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94279&hl= I got a bunch of helpful and useful suggestions. I found I do not have the skills to do those, but I did have success using an "artists blending stump". I sanded the end flat, and kinda "tapped" paint onto those letters. The stumps are sticks of rolled paper, and can be found at art and craft stores. Good luck! Edited June 12, 2015 by Kit Basher
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I'm not exactly familiar with the part you're speaking of, but a great technique for doing anything "raised" is to shoot some lacquer paint on the part in the color you want the letters to be, & then spray the part in enamel with the "overall" color. Once the part is dry, you can carefully remove the enamel from the letters with a little enamel thinner on a small swab or tooth pick. The lacquer underneath will be unaffected by the enamel thinner & the raised areas will show through. It's a great technique usually associated with chrome body scripts using foil under the paint.
