John Clutch Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Hello everyone. Thank you for this great forum. Ive been into cars since my earliest memory of standing in my neighbors driveway, look at his green 1968 Mercury Cougar in diapers. Had a few street cars, and was in the process of building a 1971 Camaro when funds went low and watching the car sit in the garage more than at the strip killed it for me. I made models here and there and then I discovered the bad ass world of rc nitro drag racing in the late 90s. I won 3 champoinships, set a few records (I still have the quickest and fastest .12 powered pro stock since 2006) and I am an innovator, building my own chassis and helped steered nitro rc drag racing to where it is today. But that is all business, with not much creativity, other than making them scream. Im a metal fabricator by trade, I weld and turn screws and my idea of vacation involves nitro and trying my best to blow stuff up. I havent built a model car in years, and have decided to get into it. I never do anything half ass so when I dive into something, its at full force and I havent taken baby steps on anything since I was 18 months old lol. I have some equipment, and Im sure Ill need alot more. My first attempt will be at the Foose 69, built to X275 specs. I am beyond impressed with the builds on this forum. That 1/24 scale Henry........there is no words to describe to talent that gentlemen has, I almost cant believe it. If he didnt post pics next to that wheat cent, I would have called it bs lol. And the unforunate events for the gentlemen building the 1/16 57 PM was heart breaking. These two guys helped push me into giving this a shot. I have the patience, and a bit of skills, and I hope to learn more from you guys and to help when I can. Thanks
John Clutch Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Also, its been awhile since Ive researched class specs, and any links would be appreciated. I imagine nothing has changed with cage 1:1 specs being 1-5/8" on main hoop? And if there is anyway of pushing a company into making a 1/12 09 Vette, just let me know the direction to go in and Ill push lol
John Clutch Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Thank you. And what is "warning points"?
stavanzer Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Glad to see you here, John. I'm sure your skills will be welcomed. Alan
Ramfins59 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Welcome to our plastic playground John, you'll like it here. I'm an ex-New Yorker from L.I. It just got too darn expensive to live there anymore so I moved 9 years ago. Warning points are something you "earn" here by being a bad boy...... Using foul language... Starting trouble by insulting people... etc... The Forum Moderators will let you know when you "go over the line".
John Clutch Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) Thanks Alan and Richard. Richard, you know the daily struggle of living here, and you know how hard it is to give it up. This city is a hard habit to break. And to be honest, I'm also over the "thrill" of living here, but not enough to move just let. But when I do, I see myself either in Maryland or North Carolina, close to the drag strip. Edited June 23, 2015 by John Clutch
Jeepxj Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Hey John, welcome fellow NYer.I'm about 50 miles east of you,out in northern Suffolk,Smithtown to be exact.I just happen to stumble upon this great site a few weeks ago.I was spending quite a bit of time another well known site, but they never had a lot of drag cars,in their forums.I come across this site, and loved the fact that they had a seperate section just for drag racing..So now I spend most of my free/model time,on this site. All of the forums are really interesting on here too.
