vlelio Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Guys first post on here. Getting back into this hobby since my early teens. I'm in awe to see the quality models that you guys are pumping out. I'm in the process of building a 1989 Honda CRX si. Now the car has a small fin in the back. How do you guys approach this when getting ready to paint? Should I mount the fin and then airbrush or paint the fin apart from the body and then mount? I guuess this would apply to the mirrors as well. They are color coded to the car so I figure it should not be a problem. But I would value your input. Please advise. Attached is a link to my progress so far. link
3100 chevy Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Attach them to pins and drill located holes in the body for the pins, paint them super tally and then attach. Or paint then attach
metalhead Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 If it is supposed to be glued onto the body, I usually drill a small hole in the part and supetglue it to a wooden skewer. Then paint it. Break off the skewer, clean up the hole then glue it to the body. Or, if has a mounting pin, I just use a pair of tweezers to hold it.

Or paint then attach That's what I usually do. Sometimes if you mount mirrors ahead of time, it becomes difficult if not impossible to paint and polish behind them. And with both the mirrors and the fin, I wouldn't want to place them onto a painted surface without a guide like a pin. In fact when you pin things onto a model, you can glue the pin in place on the inside of the body, assuring that you get no glue on your fresh paint.
vlelio Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Thank you guys for your responses. No I can get to work. I'll post pictures in the WIP soon.
