Brendan Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Got the chassis complete with all the goodies. Finished while watching the Sebring race.
Brendan Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Both bodies are primed. Need to do a little bit of wet sanding. And give them a wash and they'll be ready for paint. Should have the first coats of paint on in about 2 days or so. The front dive planes are a bit tricky to get into position. I need to make a small adjustment on one side to make it balance out with the other side.
Ariel Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Looking good . i have found alot of ref. for this car along with the ones you posted thanks Ariel
KorkyOtt Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Great work Brendan! I'm looking forward to the finish of these two.
ismaelg Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Very cool double project! That kit is surprisingly similar in layout and engineering to the Quick Skins GTP. Is there any relation? Thanks,

Brendan Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Got the Daytona winner painted. Started on the second car and ran out of paint. Thought I had more but I didn't. It always happens when you want to get painting done.
cobrit Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Great topic and great work. I don't mean to hijack your thread, But back in '91 I built the Hasagawa version of the early Toyota GTP, which turned out to be quite accurate and similar to the show car as displayed in '94 at Lime Rock, CT. Too bad this version isn't still available, as it would be a bargain compared to the resin kits. I'll try to share a couple pics. Hope I do it right. Good luck with your builds

Unfortunately that car is not an Eagle. It is a Tom's Toyota that Guerney ran for the first two races. I built that car some time ago. I wish they would have re-released it when they released the other two kits.
Brendan Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 While waiting for paint, I decided to do a motor as a display piece. The block is from Tamiya Tom's 84C Toyota. Scrounged the turbo and headers off some motors I had lying around. And the exhaust is from the other Eagle kit that's not going to be used. Not going for dead-on match but to give people an idea of what was running this car. Still need to do some detail painting but the majority of the painting is done.
Brendan Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 Finished the motor this morning. Fun, quick little project to go along side the Toyotas. Decided to put an inner cooler on. All the stuff on this motor came out of my spare parts box. I dinged it up a little bit to make it look like it's not a brand new motor.
Brendan Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Painted in the headlights and the side skirt. The side skirts will be getting a carbon fiber treatment, kind of a black-gray in color. Also painted in the red in the rear wing for the Daytona Winner.
Brendan Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 Got the decals on last night. Had some issues with some of the sizing of the decals. But was able to make them work. Also had a problem with the red Toyota decals cracking on me. I think I just had a bad sheet. Ended up using the decals from my other kit. Those decals worked fine.
Brendan Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Got the windows in and the window decal on yesterday. The main window is a little frustrating to get into position. Also the headlight covers are not as clear as I would like. They are cast in clear resin which is a little bit foggy. After sanding and buffing, I ended up putting Future over them. It cleared them up quite a bit.
Brendan Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Was out of town for two weeks and the day before I left, I painted the second Toyota. Like an idiot, not thinking, I left in a spot where the sun could get to it. Got back home and saw the paint was completely ruined. So I started to strip it. It looked like the paint was helping to hold the model in shape. As soon as I started stripping, I noticed that there were a bunch of areas cracking and warping. So...I'm going to call MS Hobbies to see if I can buy a new body. Quick reminder, everyone. SUN BAD!
Brendan Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 that's a bummer, how hard is it to find that body? I emailed Mark from MS Hobbies and he was going to sell me a body. I would highly recommend doing business with MS Hobbies.

Brendan Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 It's been a while, but I've gotten a lot of work done. Since my little accident, I have worked on 6 of these cars for a customer. Five of the cars are the Daytona cars; one is a high downforce car. Didn't have any problems with these cars as I did with my own. Here's some pictures of what I have done. Still need to clearcoat over the decals, but it's been so hot here, I'm afraid it will dry too quickly. Just waiting for it to cool down. Next time you see these, they'll be in the underglass section. Thanks for following along. Daytona car (winner) High downforce
Nick F40 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 They are all sweet, I love the Daytona winners. The high downforce one looks like a Pikes Peak car a bit. I LOVE EM ALL!
Brendan Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Thanks for the comments. Yes, it does look like a Pike's Peak car but back then that was the way of producing a lot of down force on a lot of the cars. There is another dive plane on the bottom part of the car that I haven't put on yet. I still have to build another 10 (I think) of the Daytona cars. So if anybody is doing a build and have a question, let me know cause I'm getting pretty experienced at building this kit.
