CountryJoe Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 I'm hopefully planning to do my first chop "ever"... I am building the '55 Jukebox Ford Pro Mod. I know that I want to make the care a little wider and possibly longer - but wider for sure. My question is: what to do about the front and rear glass?I though of just cutting it and then using I-beams as filler to simulate saftey straps but not so sure how that would look in the end. Any help and/or guideance would be greatly appreciated
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) Lotsa guys use the clear or tinted plastic from big pop bottles. Other guys use clear or tinted plastic report covers, styrene from the hobby shop (if you have one around) or clear or tinted acetate. Depending on how much curvature your 'glass' needs to have, you might try this... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/40824-no-windshield-no-problem-drink-up/ Here's a thread about vacuum-forming compound-curve windshields from the pop-bottle stuff. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/58564-replacement-windshield-heat-formed/ I haven't done a finished big clear part yet, but the green from a ginger ale bottle worked great for this... CountryJoe Posted August 1, 2015 Author Posted August 1, 2015 Ace: That pop bottle thing never occured to me... now that I think about it - the thickness will really work out well too. thank you so much for the idea.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Just passing along some great ideas from folks in the community here.
CountryJoe Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) Ace: you are truely a lifesaver... for a while I was thinking that I was gonna have to abandon my plan. The vacu-forming thing has really got my interest peaked. I feel its a lot to try for a firsttime making any such modifications to a kit - but, I guess I'll never know if I don't at least give it a shot. Thanks Again!!!! Edited August 2, 2015 by CountryJoe
