Jon Haigwood Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 In the AMT Double Dragster set what real Dragster was the Streamliner a copy of? On my model Facebook page we were discussing the Ala Kart. One of the Guys showed me a movie poster with the Ala Kart on it. The movie was Hot Rod Gang made in 1958. I found it on Netflicks and watched it. It showed the Ala Kart a couple times in a shop with some guy polishing it. It also showed a Streamliner in the corner and it looked just like the one in the kit. Any info on the real dragster would be helpful Thanks
BigTallDad Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) You've already watched the movie, but here's a shorter method for future reference.http://www.imcdb.org/ Just for giggles, open the link, enter the movie title (hot rod gang), and see what you get. That is a cool link thanks but it did not help me out.It showed the Ala Kart in one picture but no where was the dragster mentioned. After a better look the one in the movie is not the same as the kit but I would still like to know more about it. I did notice that the pics for the Hot Rod the information was just a short mention on what they were and no mention of the builders. I have found out about a fewof the 32's and the T Bucket tho. Ace-Garageguy Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) This won't help you directly either, but it might get you going down the right internet rathole. Dig into some of this info and you'll probably find something very close to the AMT kit version. There were a lot of streamlined dragsters built in the wayback, and Micky Thompson is widely given credit for being the first, with a horribly crude and ugly fiberglass body mounted on an early "slingshot" style chassis. Two of the most famous of the early streamliners were Chrisman's "Hustler I" and Cortapassi's "Glass Slipper", both shown below. The Slipper dates from '54, and was the first digger to run a full canopy. Here's one I know nothing about...BUT it DOES have a canopy and the odd crossram injection found in the AMT kit... Thanks I have been bouncing all over the interweb today. Glad I'm retired. I do learn a lot in the process .
