notfastenuff Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Hi guys. I ran across this show looking for info on the Cookeville show. It's 4/19/2008 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum Auditorium, and I was wondering if anyone was going. A friend and I had been years ago, and we didn't even know they still did it. We'll definitely be there. It's the only one close to us now. Anyone else?
envious8420 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 i considered going but im a car builder and looking @ their fourm these guys are air/military builders.
Smart-Resins Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Hello. I am a local, SDevierville TN. I also belong to a local modelers group that meets in Maryville every month, Sick Puppies Automotive Modelers (S.P.A.M.) a few of us are planning on going. I hope to bring some 1/16 scale resin stuff to sell if I am lucky. The group that hosts the show is a militry group. However the last 2 years they have refined themselves. Last year they had a few car groups. At the end of the show they asked one of our members Monty Lowens, who may be a name some of you recognize as he is a great builder whos builds has won sevaral shows and graced the pages of Scale Auto ansd Model Car magazines. He gave them a huge list. They laughed at first but eventually they did add a couple of groups. We are hoping everyone who has automotive builds will show. The more cars show up and the more interest is showed, the more we can persude them to enlarge these catagories. Right now this year the automotive catagories are : 1. small scale: 1/32 and smaller 2. curbside: 1/25 and larger 3. street rods: 1/25 and larger 4. street machines: 1/25 and larger 5. stock calle, all eras: 1/25 and larger 6. competition/ road and track: 1/25 and larger 7. competition/ straightline: 1/25 and larger 8. trucks, all eras: 1/25 and larger 9. reserve automotive: all subjects not fitting the above classes 10. novice automotive: all subjects and scales. last year if I remember correctly, they had 4 catagories only. So there is a improvment this year! If we can get enough, it can only get better. So I do implore you to come! Lets show these mititary guys that there is more then tanks in life! Jody
notfastenuff Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 We'll be there, there's no doubting that. I wanted to go to Cookeville today, but things just didn't work out for it. Do you know if the novice class is for novice adults or kids? I'd like to let my son enter something if he can finish something between now and then. I doubt I'll enter, but I'm sure my friend that's going will. Hopefully they'll have some good vendors. I remember a time when there used to as many as 5 shows in the Knoxville/Sevierville/Rutledge area. But then, I also remember a time when there used to be hobby shops too. Kinda depressing. I've been wanting to make a SPAM meeting, but I've got to get coordinated with you. I'm about an hour away from you guys. Someday...
envious8420 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 we do xmas in sevierville. usually rent a cabin on the mtn.
Smart-Resins Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Well, this month was held at the cookville show for those who made it.I did not. I am unemployed. Next month will be at that show. The group will have a table there from my understanding. I do hope to see you there. Not sure if I will have anything done, but I am hoping my duaghter can enter one or two. I hope to have some 1/16 scale rims trannny ect there for sale if anyone is into that scale. I remember you asking some time ago about the meeting and you never gopt back with me. We would love to see you there. As for the novice, my understanding is even though it is geared for kids, that novice adults can enter too. Thats one thing I would like to see changed! Hopefully kids will enter and not adults so the kids can get something out of it!Jody
notfastenuff Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 I just wanted to try and help these guys make this as big as it can be. We need more shows around here, but I'll be content with one good one! Let's try and help these guys make this show a success! ksma_inside.pdf ksma_cover.pdf
coopdad Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I am work as fast as my fat fingered hands will allow to try to have my model ready. I will definitely be there, either to show or spend money on next year's build. We need more of these shows in East TN! John
Smart-Resins Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I will be there. I am not sure if my model will be done or not as I am still waiting on a couple of parts. But I will be there supporting my club, and trying to sell some of my 1/16 scale resin parts. My daughter may have a model there? We are trying to do our best. If anything I will be there to spend money and make money and give support! I do hope to meet you guys there, so look for the SPAM. (Sick Puppies Automotive Modeling table) and ask for me, Jody. If you guys are from around here, perhaps you can get the info and come join our club meeting a time or two. Hope to see ya all there. Jody

Smart-Resins Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Hello. I just got back from the show and spent a little settling in. Thanks to all who turned out. I was disappointed in the swap area as there was I think much less then last year. However the automotive classes was a good turn out. Got to meet a few poeple I had not met before. Hie Jeff!! I liked a bunch that I saw. I was graced with the luck of being a judge. I dont know if I want to admit that. Sorry about some of the cars. Some should have won as well. Too few classes and in some areas, too many entries. Bowties was all excellent! Ill let him do his talking though. Some of these classes, like competition/ road and track and competition/straight line was very hard to judge.I dont know how many times Monty and I had to walk around the tables to nit pick. These two classes had some very awesome stuff in it and we had to go over them very well and pick out any minor flaw we could find to try to decide the top winners. Like I said, it was very hard! These models were near flawless, just very minute minor things that are to be expected. Outstanding workmanship!! Jeff, sorry I did not get a chance to talk to you more, if you want, go ahead and email me and we will chat some more! I could use some tips from ya!Thanks. Jody
