Tesla Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Since music wire is hardened steel, it's difficult to cut without the proper tool. Regular wire cutters can easily be ruined. I found this cutter at Home Depot and it works great! For my current project I'm using .047 music wire and this tool cut it with ease. For those who have a Dremel ( I don't), you're able to cut it. I paid $9.00 for them...well worth it!
BigTallDad Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 There's something else that should be mentioned...WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!
Snake45 Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 I wonder if this would work for the K&S rod I use to make new wire axles for older kits. I have a Dremel with a cutoff and use that now, but it's always a bit of a PITA to dig all that out for one simple stupid cut.
SfanGoch Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I just take a pair of pliers with the cutters on the back and squeeze them hard enough to score heavy piano wire. Then, I bend the wire at the scored area until it snaps off and use a sharpening steel to smooth down the break. Works for me.
