Just a thought. I'm a novice builder trying to get better. I read threads on the forums to get tips and ideas. Wouldn't it be great if some local builders, San Jose area, could put on seminars for specific topics. Engine detailing, interiors, painting, etc... I know that I would pay to attend, and I'm betting that a lot more would. I know, your not in it for the money, but I'll bet that there are a bunch of us out here that would be willing to contribute the price of a kit to further our knowledge. :D

 Hey Raul,

Now that I have gotten this started, let's see if there is any real interest. I propose the following. A once a month get together at a local (Campbell area, cause at my age I try not to drive too far), pizza place. Weekend, afternoon or evening. I'll pop for the first $100.00 toward food and drink. No set format for subjects, just getting help from the pros. Speakers/demonstrators/tipsters eat/drink free. All others share in any overage. Might be a start to a fun and educational experiance. Anyone else interested? B)

Except for you paying the first $100, it sounds GREAT! Count me in! I'd rather go for everyone paying their own fair share. After all, we'll all learn from each other and have a great time. Let me know when and where. As long as we're available, I know that we can count on Curt Raitz and Jerry Cardinal coming with me.

Later,

Lets see how much interest we can stir up. Hopefully there are a bunch of relatively "rookie" builders, like myself, around here that would like to spend some face time with more experianced guys like yourself. There is a great pizza/pasta place real close. I'll try to see if I can make an "arrangement" :o with them for a small group. If there is real interest, we could set something up a few weeks in advance.

I had a wild thought. Why not have an adult builder's table at some model shows and contests? This would be entirely up to the hosting club or organization.

Set aside a small area where people coupe bring in projects to work on during the show. Have it run by a couple of experienced builders who would be on hand to give advice and maybe show something that they're in the midst of building.

I would look to see if there is a club near you. At the CPMCC club we have had several seminars (by guys who post here) on different aspects of building. Cruz showed us how to put a wicked shine on a paint job, Randy Kern showed how to flock with embossing powder ( which I'm about to attempt for the first time)...Still haven't got Bill Geary to show us how the Shrink Ray works!

Hey Andy,

Would love to be associated with a local club. However, the closest one, I think, is over an hour drive away. It's hard to believe that as many top notch builders that there are in this area, that they don't have a club. Tips and tricks are great for an on line source, but not at all like being able to ask, "how the heck did you do that"?, and get an answer that could be explained in detail.

When I first joined a club, I was intimidated by the guys that could scratch build and lay down nice basic paint jobs. I now see that in other modelers who are hesitant to ask, "how did you do that?".

At our LIARS club meetings, we have "how to" clinics almost every month. Someone brings in a project and gives a show and tell on some aspect of it. One guy does great BMF work, one other guy's WIFE does all his BMF and even gave a clinic on it. My brother polished out a paint job at one meeting.

So the information is out there, you have to find the best way to get it spread around.

I agree Marcos. Lots of real talent and very willing to share, but, it would be nice to be able to ask "how the heck did you do that? what did you use?" in a one on one situation.
