Zoom Posted March 28, 2016 Author Share Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) The exhaust. I have to make some shims from Plasticard to get the exhaust pipe “free” from the gasoline tank. Then bend it to look a little more like what the reference photos show. Trying to weather the mufflers a bit, (maybe I´ll work a little more with this.) Thee exhaust pipe, hmm little too much I think. I don´t have any stand, so when the windows is mounted there is not easy to turn it upside down. Have to make some stand, maybe. Zoom Posted March 30, 2016 Author Share Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) I have made a BIG mistake when I was trying to get the front windows in place.I have, that I said earlier in this thread, made new windows in 1 mm “lexan” and mount them in a upside down Plastruct U-channel. That worked, but I don´t test it with the dashboard in place The dashboard has a “rim” that the original Pocher windows should “sit” against and between the metal frames. I have to take that “rim” away somehow and take a small part of leather to cover the chrome plastic in the dashboard, and get a nice fit against the window. Hmm something to solve. Not much to show, but this is the day I started with this Pocher Mercedes, last year. Not on this forum but on my work bench. Take some leather and glue around an alu wire, some bending and then apply to the dashboard. After that I try do some “wind shield wiper motors” from leftovers from the chrome tree, not permanently glued yet. More small updates When mounting the side lamps, there is a problem to get the lenses grove lines vertical.The housing should be installed first, and if you have a tight fit between the housing and the lenses, it hard to move the lenses to correct position. I take a few moves with a razor saw and made a small grove, which a screw driver will fit in.That’s make it more easy to make necessary adjustments.I put some chrome stickers on the mirrors to make it shinier. Cato Posted April 17, 2016 Share Posted April 17, 2016 I think it's difficult to do Bo. But I might use the stickers (off the car) as templates and pre-cut BMF and apply. An alternative could be .005 sheet styrene cut for templates: it's stronger than paper but cuts with scissors or scalpel very easily. It will be difficult to get such thin strips off the foil sheet and you'd need the exact locations for them marked on the car. I would use Tamiya yellow tape or 3M Fineline for the lower border for the foil as a guide. The foil is probably thin enough to not wrinkle on the curves. I'd buy plenty of sheets of bright chrome foil as the failure rate may be high.Or you can do what Dave Cox does. Cut, file and bend brass strip stock to shape, drill. insert and solder brass 00-90 threads and drill the body for them. (This one take two attempts and it is a short one, and many still to be mounted).Not easy, I feel that my hands are shakier, than normal, when I try to put the BMF in the right place the first time. Yes the longer strips will be difficult, but here's another thing to try: On a PRACTICE scrap of plasticard big enough, cut a thin strip of BMF but before you apply, put down a smear of water the full length with a drop or two of dish soap in it. Then 'float the BMF onto the liquid and see if you can position it and move it around to where you want it. Then carefully squeegee or burnish it down with a cotton tip. You want to push out the liquid that is under the foil so the adhesive sticks to the surface. This is the way tint installers do 1:1 auto glass tints. If it doesn't work, you can yell at me. Yes there are small “dents” in the BMF stripes, I leave it that way.Next time I take the photo from a little further distance Cato, yes I try “with water and soap”, it worked, but I managed to get the BMF on dry.
