PARTSMARTY Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I have an old testors rolls royce phantom kit-i think it's a 34. on the box and what i've checked out it's orange with aluminum running boards and fenders. does anybody know any other period correct colors it could be. any help would be greatly appreciated.
sjordan2 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) The kit is a Thrupp & Maberly Phantom II cabriolet built for a Maharajah, and known as "The Star of India." It's essentially a typical Torpedo body, and was also the subject of a 1/8 version by Pocher. Most experts refer to the color as "saffron." Just about any color or combination goes, and you might find inspiration in the Pocher gallery at modelmotorcars.com http://www.modelmotorcars.com//museum/murr_fin.html Edited October 11, 2015 by sjordan2
Art Anderson Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 The car in question was, however, a one-off, not repeated by the coachbuilder for any other customer.Art

There are a couple I've seen that are close, but certainly not the same. All of these specially coach-built Rollses of the era were mostly one of a kind and no two completely alike. And many were redone by later owners. I've found at least 4 different paint jobs and configurations of Ralph Lauren's famous Pope Bugatti Atlantic, for example. So one could ask, "I own this car now; how would I have done it?" Which can be part of the fun of building classic car models. Edited October 11, 2015 by sjordan2
Harry P. Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Unless you want to model that specific car, which as Art said was a one-off... as far as "period correct" color, anything goes. RRs were made (and painted) to order. Of course, there were the "typical" RR colors, as those cars were most always owned by rather conservative types who favored conservative color schemes.Do a google image search for 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom and you'll instantly see dozens and dozens of color schemes.https://www.google.com/search?q=1934+rolls+royce+phantom&biw=1535&bih=866&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAmoVChMIq8eKoJC7yAIVQTk-Ch1_CAL3
