Aaronw Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I don't know what it is but recently on FSM there are armor and aircraft guys coming out of the woodwork with car questions. Since they don't really build cars regularly they don't want to join a real car site just to ask one question. I thought I might be able to bridge the gap for them, but I'm finding gaps of my own so I'm asking you guys. #1 can the AMT 1968 Ford Shelby GT500 be built into Steve McQueen's Mustang from Bullitt? Is there a better kit to start with? He doesn't want to use the Diecast Bullitt Mustang. #2 can you recommend some good contenders for a junkyard car, an armor guy wants to go to town with some weathering and wants a good detailed kit. Probably something from the 50-60's, anything out there that would stand out as a junked rust bucket? Thanks
CAL Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Answers 1. Not very easily. The Bullet Mustang isn't a Shelby GT 500. Rather just use a fastback. AMT's 67 is about as close as you are going to get. 2. ProModeler 40 Ford.
MrObsessive Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 #1. Ditto on using the '67 and updating it. #2. I vote for the '57 Chrysler 300.........plenty of real estate there to weather, not to mention a very nice detailed kit!
Guest roadkill2525 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 #1 Wait for Revell to put in plastic like they did with the '68 Charger #2 any '51-'58 Chevy or Ford, AMT '49 Merc or Ford, Trumpeter '60 Bonneville(something useful for it), any truck
bigphoto Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Revell announced they are doing a plastic 68 Mustang!!
Tony T Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 #1-The Bullitt '68 Mustang diecast kit isn't too bad on the shelf!! It's nice and shiny, and heavy, too! #2-I'd suggest the Monogram '59 Chevy, convertible, or hardtop...or the Revell '55 Chevy convertible as well (Indy Pace car). Seperate frame, floor, etc...lots of opportunity for weathering...
FactoryStock54 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) In answer to #2; a few possibilities: 1. AMT '51 Chevy Fleetline 2. Lindberg '53 Ford Crestline Victoria 3. AMT '55 Chevy Bel Air post sedan 4. Revell '56 Chevy Del Rey or Nomad 5. AMT '56 Crown Vic, 57 Fairlane and '58 Impala HT (the opening doors allow for a lot of junkyard verité) A couple other somewhat pricey possibilities would be the Galaxie '46-'48 Chevy Aerosedan and the Revell '60 Impala Edited March 16, 2008 by FactoryStock54
