Cpt Tuttle Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Old build put on the bench again, started its life as this one.... Now looking like this. Put the body on a lenghtened Monogram deuce frame (I know that poor excuse of a chassis was good for something). Sectioned the bed a bit to get better flow in the lines. Rear axle a leaf sprung one from the parts bin, unknown source but it did fit very well. I think the wheels are Jo-Han 1962 Dodge Dart? VW Beetle seats.
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Found the engine I had finished for this one earlier.... Blown CSB from MPC 32 Chevy.
GMCMAN52 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 your off to a great start on an interesting project
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks, but it is halfway finished I think, started it 1½ years ago but has been stalled for a long time now.
DumpyDan Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Ya I have one of these and just don't know where to go with it, so I will be watching
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 Front suspension, built after a raid in the parts bin.... Tube axle = possibly MPC Switchers. Hairpins = AMT 41 Ford. Quarter elliptics = stock rear springs cut in half. The steering box was impossible to fit anywhere on the frame without either colliding with something or putting the steering wheel in very strange angles or locations, so I went for cowl steering (made from the stock tie rod, though slightly reshaped), I'm not sad about that since I like it on rods when it comes to looks, and geometry and such is something I try not to take very hard when building models.... I also found the dash I made for this one, a sectioned 51 Chevy dash, I think it will look great in this one.Should i paint it gold, or should I paint it gloss black with the top section in BMF as a divider between the colours?
cobraman Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I built one awhile ago but did mine stock. Never thought to maybe hot rod it.
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 Nothing wrong with stockers! It was bit of the opposite for me, I was craving for a hot rod build and decided that the first 20s or 30s car I could find to buy would be my victim, and it randomly turned out to be this one.Nice build btw!
Tom Geiger Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) I love that whole series of Heller Citroens. I have one of each and a few of several. They are very well done and detailed. Here's my Bordens Milk truck. It is still about at this point, I made the mistake of following the kit instructions and trying to assemble the body onto the chassis and fender unit. Next time I'll assemble the body FIRST. And when I started this build, I figured I was on my own for details since it's an obscure vehicle. Not so! Just Google it and there are tons of photos and info. Edited October 29, 2015 by Tom Geiger
Cpt Tuttle Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 It feels like a surfboard belonged on the bed, right?I have chosen the steering wheel too. 1957 Corvette. In need of a repaint though, metallic blue fits nowhere on this car.Painted the dash. Still needs some detailing. The camera really brings up all the flaws, it doesn't look this bad IRL.
Cpt Tuttle Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Headlights and windshield in place.Normally, I prefer a quite low placement of the headlights on hot rods, but in this case, I think that this high position was needed to get the right looks.I almost regret chopping the windshield now, I think that stock height might have been better. And as you can see, the chrome on this model is really bad, flaking as soon as I touch it. The Corvette steering wheel fits very well but I see now that it would benefit from another coat of paint.
