72 Charger Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Nice pics . Could you tell use which Cummins they are please. Im don't know one Cummins from another
Goodwrench3 Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Wow - I'm not sure either. I didn't ask the owners at the show. The pic in the conventional with the turbo was in the Kenworth shown in the pic here -- I wanna say they guy said it was a "390" ??? Don't quote me. The other one in the red frame was in the Freightliner in the pic here.
SpreadAxle Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 The KW engine is an NTC 290. It had a turbo but the regular intake manifold like in the Freightliner COE kits instead of the aftercooler like other turbo Cummins engines. The other one would be an NTC 350 or NTC 400. Most likely, judging by the name plate(It says Freightliner instead of White Freightliner) I would say it's a BIG CAM. Cummins introduced the BIG CAM in the mid 1970s.
lapazleo Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 The KW could be a number of ratings. Prior to the early 70's turboed Cummins weren't aftercooled. Could be a 262,270,280,290,335 very early small cam 350,380 and so on. The Freightliner almost likely a 400 as the big cam 400 was quite common in that era. Cummins are hard to tell hp by appearance. Turboed Cummins can be 743 cid or 855 cid as well and are very similar in appearance.
