Bullitt Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I picked these up on Saturday at Hobby Lobby & A.C. Moore. I am new to airbrushing (it's still in the box), and am wondering if anyone has used these, if they are usable out of the bottle, and how hard they are to use. The are all Pearlized colors. Thanks
High octane Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 While I don't air-brush, I know a LOT of builders who do and know that many of them use Bob's Paint, etc. and have seen many terrific paint jobs using his paints. He can be reached at: gdahl1@wi.rr.com. He is a great guy to deal with.
10thumbs Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Hi Phil, I'm not familiar with these paints, but I checked out their website and read the paint is water based, and recommended is a 0.5mm tip with around 40-50lbs. pressure. This tells me there is nothing special about the paints, meaning in the normal ranges.I have no idea about how the stuff needs to be thinned, but it should be fairly runny for airbrush application.Get some plastic picnic spoons or plastic coffee cups and get practicing. Unpack that air brush and get on with it!

Thanks I have used Createx, and think you will find that they are too heavy for a detail airbrush. Unless you have an airbrush with a 1.5mm tip, you will need to thin them. You may also find that the mfr recommends a "reducer" for that. You could use water but you will have to test it to see if it not only sprays well, but that the coverage has not been adversely effected.

Longbox55 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 The Createx Auto Air line is aqueous based, however, you do not thin with water. You will need their reducer. In addition, you will also need the proper respirator. The specification for the respirator is noted on the bottle.
High octane Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Bob's Paint is NOT an acrylic! You're right Frank, Bob's Paints are lacquer.
