1/18 Mercedes Benz 500K by Maisto

made by Maisto.  they are gifts from the official Mercedes-Benz seller in my region. My father's friends buy a real Benz, I get a fake one.

anyway the model itself is just not bad, see it in the pics pls.

 

red one looks nice..i mean red paints looks good vintage.

It's a nicely done diecast, and a good value. However, you'll notice that the white one has the inaccuracy of having spare tires on both the fenders and the trunk. Never came that way from the factory.

you're right. I almost didn't pay attention to that. It said that it is call ' special roadster ' . I don't know maybe some other version of this car.

Those Maistos respond extremely well to some detail painting and BMF.

Oh and special roadster (the correct spelling is actually Spezial Roadster) is what the Sindelfingen factory called this rakish roadster body style.
Interestingly, the majority of the cars were bodied in-house, which was quite unusual for a luxury car maker at the time.
Of the 342 500Ks built, 29 were delivered as Spezial Roadsters. The white Maisto model tries to depict this car, which was delivered to a Maharaja in India:

But in reality it was a 540K, had RHD and a different tail treatment without the spare wheels, as noted earlier.
Usually Spezial Roadsters had a round lid with a chrome moulding capped single dorsal fin running the length of the rear deck, when the rear spare wheels weren't carried:

 

However, the Maharadja Roadster was modified to have a larger almost rectangular finless lid fitted with a luggage carrier:

The covered trunk spare tire versions were quite rare and are highly sought after today. The 1/16 kit by Minicraft, Entex, etc. is pretty good, and can be built as the Maharajah, or with spares mounted on the fenders, or on the trunk (open or closed). You should look at the one built by Harry P of this forum.

I like that white one.  I have the red one and a dark blue one the same as the red one.
