cowboy rich Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I know if I dig long enough I will find the answer but no luck so far. What do you guys like to use to remove paint, I have a truck I'm getting ready to clean up for the brbo and have not had good luck with easy off in the past actually finished on with an air eraser and corn starch on just air brushed model master. Any other suggestions? ThanksRich
Old Buckaroo Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 My preferred method is Simple Green in a Tupperware type tub and lid. I have found it works way quicker if warm as kept on top of the refrigerator or a few feet from a heat vent in a secure room from kids and pets. 24 hrs and most paint slips right off.Easy off works best if used in a large ziplock bag, place the cab or body and spray it down real good and zip it . Ten minutes later the paint is history. Might need to respray stubborn spots.
cowboy rich Posted December 9, 2015 Author Posted December 9, 2015 Maybe I'll try that this time, I had one in easy off for almost 2 weeks in a Ziploc and it wouldn't give up completely
plastic trucker Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I use Easy Off all the time too. But I did have one or two that the paint wouldn't come off even after two weeks. It only faded the paint.
snacktruck67 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 My experience with easy off has been quite good. However it does not affect Duplicolor for some reason. That might be your problem with the easy off.

And i have been known to add some easy off to the mix as well. It works well on the moedl paints. not so good on automotive paints. be Well Gator

Repstock Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I use Brake Fluid. If it fails, I use Easy-off. In the cases where it doesn't work well, Testor's Easy Lift Off (ELO) does. I've even stripped Tamiya and Duplicolor lacquers, though it may take a few sessions.
Brinx Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I've had pretty good luck with the tire/wheel cleaner from the Dollar Store, Like the Simple Green method I have a plastic tub with lid and just drop the parts in. It can take anywhere from a few hours to 3-4 days. It works quite well with the automotive rattle can paints and even on a Testors paint job I can personally confirm was 30 years old!The stuff does a decent job removing chrome too. Again, plan on soaking for at least 3-4 days, but it has worked in as fast as several hours (rare though). The product has not disappointed me yet as far as the plastic goes, I currently have a car body that has been soaking for at least a month (yeah, yeah...I'll get around to it one of these days...lol)So the upshot is, the cheap stuff will give you a good job, but there is a time investment that for me, justifies the cost savings.

cowboy rich Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Nice try Rich, nice tryI tried searching from the home page and then tips and tricks and the only way I was getting to it until I could spend time on a computer was the link you posted. If this is your standard response to a thank you then don't bother any longer
veezee Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 For future reference Rich, when you quote a post don't go making spelling changes, especially when the there were no misspelled words to begin with. It makes your reply look bad
