boyesreef Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 hey guys. im actually building this one for the wife, her grandfather had a ford "AA" all her life. he passed away a couple years ago, and she finally talked me into building this one. i couldnt find a kit of an AA, so i decided a tribute build would have to suffice. this is the truck im trying to replicate with any hopes. im using a lindberg 1934 ford pickup kit to build it. heres what we got for a starter... as you can see, ive only just begun to shave the flashing and pick parts, but the body is very similar if not the same. the bed is longer in the real truck, and the running gear is larger as it is a 2 ton truck. thats why its a tribute instead of a true model.
Greg K Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 that's a really good kit. i built that one just a short while ago, although mine was molded in yellow. seems the biggest hurdle you'll have are the tires and wheels.
62rebel Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 if you can find an Italeri Opel Blitz you could kitbash the frames together and get a fair-ish representation....
Tom Geiger Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Or if you don't mind working in diecast, Danbury Mint did a '33 Ford AA. Here's a shot of the chassis. This one is available at that auction place with a cheap Buy It Now.
boyesreef Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 the wife decided to go with a resto-mod theme. like she said to me, it is a tribute, and we should build it how grandpa would have if he had the extra cash. i dont know what happened on the fender there, but i hate working with flat paint. so far shes happy with it, with the hood on it, you can see grampas truck for sure.
boyesreef Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) let me say again, i hate flat paint. the "ol' jim" is for papa jim, and he was a case fanatic. sorry about the terrible pictures, the only camera i own is attached to my phone. Edited December 15, 2015 by boyesreef
boyesreef Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 still got some accessories to mock and build. but its coming into view. the wife cried a little when she saw the detail i put into this.
horsepower Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Looking good, that should be good for a fe "atta boy" points with the wifey. And we can always use those because we all know one "Oh BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH" cancels a thousand atta boy points.
