Scot T. Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I built an enclosed spray booth about a year ago out of 3/4 mdf, but soon realized the wood was holding a static charge and collecting dust. So now I'm now in the process of lining it with aluminum flashing, but was wondering if I need to ground it? Is aluminum even a conductor? If any of you guys have any experience with this any help would be greatly appreciated.
redneckrigger Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Yes, aluminum is a conductor. I have never built a booth for models, but, I did own a full size downdraft booth in a body shop, and it WAS grounded to control static. Won't be a big deal to do, so go for it!
Scot T. Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 Thanks tom, I'm sure a small gauge wire ran to the ground on my compressor should do.
kitbash1 Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I grounded mine to the squirrel cage blower motor casing. This works fine.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I grounded mine to the squirrel cage blower motor casing. This works fine.Yeah, as long as the blower motor itself has a 3-wire grounded plug, and is correctly grounded.
kitbash1 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Yeah, as long as the blower motor itself has a 3-wire grounded plug, and is correctly grounded. The answer is yes to both. Momma didn't raise no dope.
