68shortfleet Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 (edited) I'm close to the same way Greg, I could put it back in the box for a later build, but I just can't put a model in the trash. Just can't do it.On a better note, I hope to have this car clear coated this weekend. Edited February 20, 2016 by 68shortfleet
wayne swayze Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I have a cardboard box that old glue bombs and abandoned projects are stored. I call it "the YARD"...as in scrap yard. I use it for parts, but I love to find something in there I haven't seen in a long while, and get the itch to make something out of it. I never throw any model stuff out! Glad to hear you're seeing this one through to the end.
10thumbs Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Jason, I like the look your going for.Man I took a deep breath about the brake fluid bath. I did some experimenting a while back and a Lindberg 64 Dodge started to melt away in a brake fluid bath. The edges were warped and rough, the front windshield post had collapsed. Lots of surface areas were ruined.Good your model came out OK.Michael
68shortfleet Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 Ok, this 36 is all but done. I need to install the horn grills and taillights still. Not sure why, but this kit has fought me all the way. I think it took three purple baths, and I am still not completely happy with it. Also having issues with paint chipping, all the way to plastic like the primer didn't adhere properly. Probably be a while before I paint anything black too. This was two black cars in a row, paint shows every flaw.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Yup. Both the AMT 3-window and this 5-window have separate roof sections...from the belt-line up. (The Monogram 1/24 '36 is the same way.) It makes these kits particularly challenging to build well, as the roof sections don't fit perfectly and always take a good bit of finessing. And AMT even has two different tool roofs for the five window coupe. One, for the Dick Tracy kit, and another for their "regular kit" five window. The top sections of the hood (molded in one piece in the kit) are also different on each version.I was surprised to realize that after building the two versions of the five window.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I like the black and silver treatment. I'm generally not a fan of two-tones on fat-fendered cars, but your silver insert panels pick up the chrome of the grille and the colors in the engine bay. The red interior is a nice splash of color highlight too.Looks like you did an outstanding job of detail-painting those wide-five wheels as well.
mod3l Lover Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 I actually have a couple of original issue chopped tops (molded in black). I believe the chopped top was reissued once molded in white. I also have a couple of different resin bodies for a 36 sedan and 36 humpback sedan. I guess I need to start building these kits at a faster pace. First off, I love what you got going on here!!I have to add my 2 cents worth now! I thought maybethat I was the only one who just sat on a bunch of kitseven though I was looking forward to building them. My problem is I keep thinking I should wait becausemaybe I will goof it up, and I really like the kit! And now my building skills are going down hill in afast pace. (growing old sucks!!) Maybe I need plastiholics therapy or something!?! Build happy my friends, David S.
68shortfleet Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 Thanks for all the kind comments. And AMT even has two different tool roofs for the five window coupe. The top sections of the hood (molded in one piece in the kit) are also different on each version.I was surprised to realize that after building the two versions of the five window. I will have to look into that, I have the Tracy kit also. And I recently bought the louvered hood/trunk kit from Ed Fluck with hopes to build them into another 5 window.
