sjordan2 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I think the Isley Brothers were a bigger leap from the first release than the Beatles from the Isley version. But there's for me no dislike to the Beatles version and they did adjust the tempo so folks could dance to it!I can't remember who did it, but back in the day, someone combined "Twist and Shout" with "La Bamba" for nearly 10 minutes of the best, sweat-soaked dance music ever.
sjordan2 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) I have the DVD, and it's excellent, (except for that weird hare krishna garbage at the beginning). Yeah, I skip over the Shankar raga stuff on the Harrison memorial, which is way too long. But the ensemble of stars, especially Jeff Lynne, Joe Brown, etc., is stunning. Billy Preston's version of "My Sweet Lord" is unforgettable, and the guitar finale with everyone is worth a standing ovation, even if you're alone. After 14 years, it's still a tear-jerker for me. JollySipper Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 So I've been listening to these Guys regularly for a few weeks now........ Used to think they were just some oldies music that my parents listened to, Now I see the impact they had on popular music from the time they were recording until now. Some artists better songs were covers of Beatles tunes.......... Joe Cocker doing "With a Little Help From My Friends" comes immediately to mind........

Glad to hear you're a "new" fan!
