Ron Hamilton Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 For 2016, I have decided to finish some of my many still-born projects from the past few years, instead of starting on something new. I have quite a few of them to keep me going for at least a year or three. The first one I am going to tackle is a JoHan 1964 Plymouth Fury 2 Door Hardtop. I picked up a workable body from a friend at our model club meeting. I was able to clean up the glue-burns, and laid down a nice primer finish after I blocked the body, and added the fender separation lines. I got a set of bumpers, vacuum-formed glass, interior tub (bench seat), and hood ornament from The Modelhaus. The chassis, underhood area, and some suspension parts came from the AMT 1969 GTX, and the 426 Commando engine, Torqueflite Transmission, and 8 3/4 rear axle are from the AMT '71 Charger. The Full Wheelcovers and Tires are from the Lindberg '64 Plymouth Belvedere. As of today, I have tightened up the fit, and I am ready to lay down a paint job, using what I have. I have to look through my parts boxes for an air cleaner and valve covers.
skymnky721 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Nice crisp detail on the side badges+trim strips,,looks great so far,,neat kit.
Eric Macleod Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Ron, I like your concept of completion of stillborns as a resolution for the new year. I don't think I can completely join you as I have so many to finish but I do have two in particular that needs to see light of day this year. For those I'll join you. Thanks for leading the charge! I like the model you have selected as a starting point.
GTJUNIOR Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Great idea to complete all those stillborn projects. Looking good so far.
Roadrunner Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I can certainly relate to this concept. Since joining this site a little over a year ago, I have finished exactly zero kits that I've started. Botched paint jobs, needing parts, distractions from other projects, wrong or lost parts, etc. have kept me from finishing anything in 2015, but I hope to rectify that this year. We'll see I guess.
Danno Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I'm in. Finishing off some stalled works in progress is a great idea! Worthy of a New Year's Resolution.
om617 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Kit bash is fun and looks like you are off to a good start. Any plan for the gap between the firewall and wiper panel?
Ron Hamilton Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Kit bash is fun and looks like you are off to a good start. Any plan for the gap between the firewall and wiper panel?I took care of the firewall with some sheet plastic when I lined everything up. I have to prime the interior, the chassis, and engine compartment, then it is ready for paint. It's a little cold for that right now. In the next few days, I am going to detail the front and rear grilles, as well as the wheel covers.
Eric Macleod Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 How are we coming folks? I am plugging away at the Duesenberg. Posting is coming soon.
disabled modeler Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Ron...I can relate to that all too well I have many waiting for parts to be found for them so I can continue on with them and get them restored. Nice looking 64 Plymouth.
Ron Hamilton Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 Well,I got quite a bit done on the 'ol girl, I'll take and post some pics soon, when the snow breaks. I painted it, foiled it, and rubbed it out, and I am quite happy. All I have to do is the engine (426 Super Commando with some max wedge bits), and the interior (once I select the color). I am quite happy with it.
wayne swayze Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I'm in. Finientirelyg off some stalled works in progress is a great idea! Worthy of a New Year's Resolution. I agree entirely !
Ron Hamilton Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) I have been trying to insert the pictures of the model in its current state. For some wierd reason, I am not able to get Photobucket to work. Edited March 10, 2016 by Ron Hamilton
