I am building a 49 ford, mostly out of the box and stock. According to the internet in 49 the flathead was dark blue or, later in 49, bronze. The Mercury flathead was green from 49 to 51 but had a 4 inch stroke (as opposed to the 3.75 inch stroke of the ford). Outside of the engine color and without buying any resin pieces are there any other changes I need to make to the kit engine to make it look like somebody swapped in a mercury engine? I'm not really going for strictly stock as the paint color won't be correct and I'm shooting for a mid to late fifty's feel. Would this have been a common swap back then? I realize OHV engines would have been readily available but for a guy on a budget it seems reasonable to swap in a mercury engine if it just bolts right in.

Yup. Common bolt-in swap, and the engines look alike.. :D

Other than the color, as already noted.

Thanks Bill and Scott, I will build it as planned.
