I have a wager with some friends that I'll have at least one project finished for the nationals next year in Omaha, and this will be that entry. After attending at least three national conventions, I've always wanted to enter, but it just never seems to happen; I intend to change that next year.

Obligatory contents shot, (I sort of went nuts with the AM, but at least should now have the ability to make it as "busy" as I see fit).

This is the particular machine I'll be depicting. Photo caption says this is a C-4, and the only real difference I see between this and a standard C-7, is the closed spinner and extra armor on windscreen, yet I have a profile drawing (I know), that shows the open type spinner, but,... photos don't lie.

very cool !  looks like this will be a great project !

Thanks, Gino. I have much more to post up, just been busy with some other "stuff".

I got so carried away with the discovery that I can now post images that are not dragged off of my computer, I inserted the wrong book image, though it will certainly come into play as well. This was the intended second book image.

These aircraft really took a beatin' from Allied fighters but I've always liked the lines of this bird! Will be watching.(A 1/32nd scale? This thing outta be HUGE!)

I'm guessing that the spinner colors are black green/yellow/white, back to front. I assume the fuselage band is yellow, and it appears the same to me as the central spinner band. I've seen at least two artsy representations of this plane, and both are different from each other, as well as different from this photo, so perhaps there's room for some "artistic license", though yellow identifications were certainly used on almost all Luftwaffe units operating in Russia.

Yep, 1:32 scale Dragon kit, Joe, the C-7 boxing, as that's as close as I can get to the C-4. A pretty darn nice kit, all things considered, but with absolutely lousy instructions. Dragon has sort of established their own niche for crummy instruction sheets, and this kit is certainly no exception.

Another of life's little mysteries; while scrolling through this Kagero book, I discovered this interpretation of the same airframe, referring to it as an E-1. Several features are called out the same as I had interpreted, but not quite all. No extra armor on the windscreen, and open spinners. Everything else seems to check though. I'm not quite sure I agree with the plan view interpretation, the jury is still out on that one, though it may well be pretty close. I'll keep digging.

Scan below offered up observing "Fair use" concept, and should be observed accordingly.

I'm in the process of going through all of the dedicated 110 references I have, making notations in a spread sheet for future reference. I cannot confirm (yet) that the C carried the under wing bomb racks for sure, though I've already added them to the wings. I'm giving myself a certain amount of latitude, concentrating more on trying to capture the "essence" of the unit, rather than any particulars.

Bombs are being prepped for use, but I may not use them all. One nifty thing, there are four extra wing racks left over, as these are on an intentionally duplicated sprue.

Much to my surprise (and happiness), I've discovered that the C-7 boxing, has the extra armored glass typically seen on the E versions. These were apparently sometimes retrofitted to the C versions, so I now have the correct armored glass for the aircraft that I'm trying to depict. I'm a happy pup!

I've come to realize that the Eduard interior set (#32628), will be virtually useless to me; lots of work for very little appreciable gain. There are a few elements that I may end up using, but certainly not much.

Man I hate to hear that about the interior set. I can't tell you how many times I've bought AM items only to use just a few parts out the set. I know you'll do this one right though.

Well I'll certainly try, Joe. This may be one of the first kits that I've built in a very long while, where the fuselage will be painted without the wings attached. It should make painting and weathering so much simpler, and the wings fit like a glove, so I anticipate very little blending being required.

Progress? Just curious. Hope you're havin' a good day Kevin.

Actually, I've been meaning to update, just haven't seemed to get to it.

Yeah, looking forward to this one for sure.

Thanks, G. If I can pull off the paint scheme the way I want, it should look pretty darned cool, I think. I've only ever seen this scheme done once in 1:32, and liked parts of what he did, but not so much on other parts.

Ye old wheel well gusset installation. Kit instructions are really lousy here, allowing the modeler to be quite creative in their installation sequence, or just figure it out slowly. I have no idea if these are correct or not, but since I don't typically worry about wells too much, I'm OK with it.

OK, here's a photo of the photo (see how I did that?), of an asymmetrical load I'm (sort of) intending to duplicate on this machine. I presume this to be an SD or SC1000, and had a fellow forumite send me one for use on this project, though it won't actually be hung from the aircraft, but will instead, be placed on a homemade sled.

My patience finally ran out at the time I was seriously working on this, so I went out and bought a new Paasche airbrush hose to enable me to finally get to some painting. (I discovered that my little Iwata already had an Iwata to Paasche adapter, so I've now been able to use this for all of my airbrushes, Paasche and Iwata.
