raisin27 Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 (edited) I did one of these about a year ago for someone else. I thought it was kinda cool looking so I decided to do myself one. Getting close to being finished, still need to add some details and finish the chassis. Thanks for looking, Raisin Edited April 4, 2008 by raisin27
CraigDaModeler Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Nice Mr. Raisin! Great detailing in the engine compartment! Looks just right!!
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 What's goin' on... Man that is too cool! Did you scratch build that Accel Super Coil or where can that be obtained from?
Raul_Perez Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Very nice, Michael! That'll look cool next to mine!! I should call SMBC and get one on order! Later,
m408 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Very nice. How did you get the right ground contact with the slicks?
Mad Slammer Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Man, I really like this one. Looks mean. Nice work. . .
Greg Myers Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 These both look like the "DONKS" in the post above. However, knowing what's going on here makes it allot easier to understand . Tire technology in the sixties being what it was called for drastic measure to get the power to the ground, thus the altered wheelbase. Again with poor tire technology the front end comes up to promote weight transfer giving the car more bite on the tiny, hard slicks of the day. Rethinking all of this later brought the front end back down for better aerodynamics, and on and on. "DONKS" however, I just don't get. Seems to me the sillier we can make it the better it is ? Two great AWB diggers by the way. Thanks for sharing them.
raisin27 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks....... The coil is from SMBCWhat's goin' on... Man that is too cool! Did you scratch build that Accel Super Coil or where can that be obtained from?
raisin27 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Thanx Raul, yes they would make quite a site running down the quarter mile together wouldnt they? Did you use the model king chassis with yours? If so how did you deal with the open areas? I basically just built some filler panels with sheet styrene. Should have some chassis pics up soon. Very nice, Michael! That'll look cool next to mine!! I should call SMBC and get one on order! Later,
raisin27 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Maybe im just getting to old for all this...........but what the heck is a donk? These both look like the "DONKS" in the post above. If so how did you deal with the open areas? I basically just built some filler panels with sheet styrene. Should have some chassis pics up soon. I bought the "full" kit from SMBC that included the "chassis", but it was just a resin pop of the Model King/AMT reissue. Like you, I used sheet styrene to fill in the sides and the rear sections. I'm pretty sure that there are pictures of the chassis on my Fotki site, if you're interested. I also used the Accel Super Coil from SMBC. I didn't use the vacuform glass that came with the kit. I had a AMT issue of the stock model that Chris used to master the body, so I used the glass and a few other parts for the build from the AMT kit that looked better than what SMBC had provided. I like the way that you mounted the gas tank better than the way I did, mostly because you kept the stock grille in place with your design...but then I kept the front bumper... That's what's really cool about the two different builds...even in 1:1 they were all a little different. Here's the link to my finished model "Under Glass":http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...55+nomad+gasser Later,
