Ace-Garageguy Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 That's NICE. Using the body for a jig to make the frame additions is the best approach, by far. Saves a ton of measuring and adjusting. Smart guy.
futurattraction Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 That stance is perfect! Your under-body bracing and wheel rework is very clean, too. Very nice update!!!
Metalmad Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 Thank you Scott & Bill !I have found a few reference photos of the front caliper / brake system but the photos are of a later Funny Car I think so I will be tackling the front set up next.
Metalmad Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Dale I will be painting the car a bright red just as the real car is. Edited April 14, 2016 by Metalmad
Metalmad Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Was able to get in a little bench time this evening and I was able to get the front hubs built for the front rotors and they are drilled photo etched Detail Master brake rotors which are probably not the correct rotors for a Funny Car but they look good on her and to me. So next I will scratch build the brake caliper mounts and possibly scratch build the front calipers as well. I have also shot some primer on the Pro Tech ignition box's and the Pro Tech coil's and I will also have to scratch build the mounts for these as well.
Metalmad Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 Well I have looked through my stash of parts and it looks like I will be scratch building a set of calipers for the rotors and the caliper brackets so its off to the bench !
Metalmad Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) Was able to get in a little bench time in this weekend so I scratch built two new rear upper and lower frame brackets that attach to the rear differential and I also finished scratch building the front brake calipers but I still need to clean them up a bit then drill the holes in them for the brake lines and then shoot some primer on them then some color. Next will be to scratch build the brake caliper brackets that will attach to the front spindles so thats all for now. Sorry that the pictures are not that great and that they are not showing much detail on the calipers since I did add some detail of the pistons on the outside of them which you would able to see that they are 4 piston calipers. Metalmad Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) I have scratch built another set of front brake calipers since I was not satisfied with the first set that I scratch built and the second set are finished with paint and I also started scratch building the exhaust headers since the kit ones seemed to me that they where a little off in scale. Metalmad Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) Was able to get in a little bench time in today and also started another project to hopefully get both these builds done for the Show at the NHRA Museum that our Club will be sponsoring in Nov which is the Need For Sped 2.Was able to get the exhaust headers finished today with the exception of not getting them shot with some primer and I started the body work on the Tom Daniels 55 Chevy Gasser Badman and It will be built pretty much stock except for the body color and interior color. W-31 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Seth , the real bracing would be made of very small chromoly tubing.
Mooneyzs Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Seth.... You are doing a nice job on this build and it's looking great.
Metalmad Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) Thank you Art & Chris ! Progress has been slow on this build but hopefully I'll have the exhaust finished in a few days with some updated photos. Edited May 20, 2016 by Metalmad
cook_dw Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 This is gonna be sweet when finished.. Sorry for the dumb question but where did you get your wheels.. I really like those.
Metalmad Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) Well I have pretty much finished scratch building the exhaust except for shortening the bottoms of the outlets so they are all even then i will get the bottom outlets glued in place then shoot some paint on them. I guess I'm satisfied with how they came but I always think to myself that i could have done a better job building them but I will leave them they way they are for now and move on to the next part of the build. To answer your question about the wheels Darrell I purchased the wheels probably about ten years ago from my local Hobby Shop and they where made by So Real which I think Pegasus maybe producing them now. Mooneyzs Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Seth.... That is looking great. I love the stance of this. Keep up the great work.
Metalmad Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 Progress has been slow since all I have been working on is mocking up the position of the engine and trying to get it to sit level in the frame rails. So I have redone the four mounting points and modified them by scratch building two small brackets for the front mounting points and two for the rear. I have also been working on the body of the Tom Daniels Bad Man Gasser and man the body needs a lot of work on it to get looking half way decent. Will get some pictures as soon as I have a chance. Keep On Building !
