MrBuick Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I kinda like it, but I agree it'd be a LOT better with a matte clear. I'm way more into "driven" cars than I am show-quality cars and cars that have been restored beyond new. Show queens completely defeat the purpose of owning a classic car IMO...they're meant to be driven and enjoyed, not locked up and stored...show it off on the road and at the gas station, not at a car show! But hey, that's just my opinion, and those guys who build show cars that drive it a total of 5 miles on and off a trailer for the rest of their lives aren't "wrong," they just do it differently than I would. I like the patina "fad" if that's what you want to think of it as, but it's definitely not for everyone.
Greg Myers Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 (edited) Ah yes, the "Trailer Queens" , reminds me of a trip up in the mountains. We saw a guy unloading a nice Willis Gasser. Figured there must be a show in town. Later on finding the show we decided to check it out. There was the Gasser. The owner was telling a nice looking lady how he had driven it up from the valley, a 100 + mile trip through the mountains. Yeah, Right. Edited April 5, 2016 by Greg Myers

Ace-Garageguy Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 ... - they want to stand out in the crowd. This is one way of accomplishing that. Yeah, and that brings me to what I really hate about fake patina. It's done in a look-at-me way, trying to be cool, just like everyone else with a patina'd car is cool, and trying to be cool is the damm sure way to make sure you're NOT cool...you're just another follower. Baaa baaa. And it's the lazy way to be me-too-cool. It takes ONE HELL OF A LOT OF EFFORT and skill to get a car straight and put decent paint on it...and I don't mean trailer-queen Ridler paint, either. It doesn't take much effort at all to run a DA over a nice old car (like they did to that poor old Dodge) and squirt a coat of clear over bare bondo and sanding scratches. Oh boy, I'm really impressed. REAL patina on a REAL survivor = cool. FAKE patina = BUT: well-done fake patina on a model that looks like a REAL rusty-crusty-old-car = very cool.
MrBuick Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 not all "trailer queens" ride the rails, quite a few are actually driven. my truck is not Barrett Jackson quality, but it's cleaner than the average truck and it goes where mere mortal vehicles would fear to tread. countless times, especially when fueling up, i have people ask me if i ever take it off-road....if they only knew, if they only knew i just usually tell them i dont need to leave mud on my truck to make it look like a 4x4 there is nothing wrong driving a vehicle & looking good doing it, just takes a little more effort, which, i'm sorry, looks better than a rust job rollin' down the road... Theeeeeeeeeeeen, they're not trailer queens.
Greg Myers Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 I wouldn't think so. Just a nicely cared for truck.
Greg Myers Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 i dont need to leave mud on my truck to make it look like a 4x4 No you don't. But you see it around here all the time, especially if we get a little rain. Wait a minute, it hasn't rained in awhile and the poser is still drivin' around like he just came in from the country.

Greg Myers Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 If it looks good and you drive it, it ain't no trailer queen.
