Look in the tips and tricks part of the forum and you'll find lots of info on the basics required for building great models. I would recommend that you get a decent hobby knife, a good sprue cutter (diagonal cutter ),a selection of quality paint brushes and a set of jewellers files and fine grit sandpaper as a bare minimum.
