Againmikewins Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Hello everyone! I recently picked up this '64 Ford Modified Stocker kit this weekend at the DAAM show at Macomb Community College. I was looking for some inspiration on google for a project for this car since it seems to be a very simple build and I'm having trouble finding something close to it in 1:1. What kind of race car are these kits based off of? I'm only really finding mid 60's nascar stock cars. This kit with the wide wheels, modified wheel wells and panels are kind of confusing. Anyone have any insight for these kits? Thanks!
MrBuick Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 If it's the kit I'm thinking of (Orange #12 car on box) it looks like a Galaxie.
Againmikewins Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 Oh yeah, I know it's a Galaxie, but I'm having a hard time looking for a real life 1:1 that looks like this kit. I'm assuming this kit is based on some style of stock car, but it just doesn't look like the 60's era nascar. The photos below are the only ones I'm finding and they look considerably different than this AMT modified stocker kit.
MrBuick Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Well, I don't think it's based off of an actual car, but it looks more like a dirt track stock car than a Nascar. See if you can find some inspiration in some of these. https://www.google.com/search?q=60's+era+dirt+track+stock+cars&biw=1366&bih=668&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiFysHhkvXLAhWmmIMKHcz6BQkQ_AUIBigB
Againmikewins Posted April 4, 2016 Author Posted April 4, 2016 Thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for, but I just couldn't think of the term. I don't really have much racing knowledge these days and as a kid, I only followed nascar. This is exactly what I needed! I recently seen someone had built the '66 Buick version of this kit, was that you by chance?
MrBuick Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 No, but I've been on the lookout for one on the cheap.
Earl Marischal Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I find these type of competition cars (Modifieds, etc) amazing. There is nothing like them in the UK.steve
AC Norton Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 hi Michael, this AMT series was based on short track Saturday night racing on both dirt or paved tracks....body styles, engines, and all else ran the gamut , and they were fast and loads of fun to watch. anyhow, if you go to the NASCAR section on this forum, you will see one I built back a while ago, and it was a fast but fun build for sure.....the Ace....
