evilone Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 since all the old people like talkin all this talk i think its time for them to start walkin the walk heres the challenge since suppositly no one dislikes low riders challenge:its going to be old farts v.s. young blood in a lowrider build off time:2 months nothin more prize:pride goal:to see if the old fokes can walk the walk or to see if they can only talk now lets see if anyone has nerve to step up
evilone Posted April 8, 2008 Author Posted April 8, 2008 so who wants to put their pride on the line or do you people want a 19 year old guy talkin smack for the rest of your lives
Clay Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Dude would you just stop egging it on? This is why people are "hating" because you or whoever else won't let it go. If you were one of my Marines I would tell you to shut up and go sweep the parking lot. Now all I am doing is asking you to drop it, this is turning from a model forum to a contest forum, and I don't like that because I would lose tremendiously to most of the people on here. But anyway, just don't bite off more than you can chew with this. Thats all I have to say.

A-slammer, (no engine, interior or chassis, blacked out windows) B-curbside, (no engine, full interior) C-box stock, (straight out of the box, besides paint, chrome foil & decals, possibly flocking, & maybe drilled out exhaust tips, stretched sprue antennas & making tape seat belts, per IPMS box stock rules?) D-semi detailed, (& how much detail is allowed?) E-full detailed 2-Who's going to be the judges? As an example, if you or I were judges, cries of "favoritism" from one group or another would be heard. 3-If different styles as aboved are allowed, how will that criteria enter into the judging? In other words, somebody is going to howl if a slammer beats a clean & detailed build. 4-How much are you going to take photographic skills into account? That can weigh postively or negatively in an online challenge/contest as well as the previously listed issues. You want to issue a challenge that's fine, but you need to have it better thought out before challenging anyone. any build style no curb side allowed the model must have everything judged by non other then gregg full detail no photography skills its on old man
Rick Schmidt Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Not for this "Build off ". Just proving I don't have to be a kid and Tawk Lik a foo an rite lik 1 2 just to build a a nice clean lowrider of my own taste.
Harry P. Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) Judged by Gregg???? Uh, does Gregg know that??? No photography skills? Since photos are all we would have to judge from, that seems like a pretty bad idea. I think you'd better think this through a little further before you issue your "challenge", because what you have on the table right now isn't workable. And a little friendly word of advice: there are plenty of "old guys" here that could blow you out of the water so bad you wouldn't know what hit you. (that's just this old guy "talkin' smack" )... LDO Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hey kid- (and I mean that in the most smack-talkin' way possible ) This may help make it more workable: Curbside only. This would make everyone concentrate on paint and interior. If you go full detail, you won't find many takers and the two month deadline will kill the whole deal. You gotta figure out a judge. It's gotta be someone impartial. If Gregg agrees that's cool. If not, you might approach Mark Gustavson. He knows everything there is to know about automotive style. Hey y'all it's all in fun. I like the kid's idea.
MR BIGGS Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) YOU CAN COUNT ME IN I AM AN OLD GUY... FULL DETAIL ,FULL SHOW AND BUNCH OF OTHER GOOD STUFF, HMMMMMM AS HE THINK'S ABOUT IT. OK I WILL EVEN LET YOU PICK YOUR POISON. YOU KNOW WHAT DAMAGE I CAN DO. TAKE YOUR PICK.... Edited April 8, 2008 by MR BIGGS
James Flowers Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 What would it prove ? I think you are very childish in your challenge. What happens if you get beat? Do you still rant and rave or sulk around. Like you are now. My two cents

Say Kevin ,, have you seen this post ? http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11237 Are you REALLY sure you want to go down this path ? Hey Steve...that's not fair showing pictures of your 1:1 car on a model forum!! Seriously though, GREAT work!! I'll take a powder on this challenge and bow to your better skills in building a clean lowrider just from those pics. And yes, at 51, I'm even older than you!! Later,

Pokey Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Seriously man, just drop it! You are making yourself look worse and worse the more you whine about it. Besides, there are alot of "old farts" on here that have been building Lowriders since before you were born. I'm not sure you are ready for the Butt-whooping you would have to endure if this "build-off" were to actually take place. Just let it go.

I choose you as the winner, whatever poisen he deems to choose.
Pokey Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Yup, judging by what has been posted already, I'd say the old guys have already won!!! That was fun, let's do it again sometime!
monkeyclaw Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I'm usually non-partisan about these fueds; but as an "old (Anglo) guy" myself; I was rocking the bombas and sleds long before you squirts were a wet spot on the sheets.... Even Gregg has to remember my 60 Caddy in Honolulu...I am all for this one guys.... Impatient you are paduan (Yoda voice)....much learning still to do you have ...although it will be a fun build; Methinks (you guys have been complaining about proper use of the English language) the instigator of this challenge has bitten off way more than can be chewed; with no disrespect intended....you are challenging a group of guys with at least a collective millenium of modeling experience; and the wallets to back it up; so be careful what you wish for...to the winner go the spoils (PROPS); and to the losers....just the satisfaction of job not done as well as they thought........matt
m408 Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Kevin, I'm one of the old farts. Don't have the skills that you have seen in some of the responses here, but will give you a little free advice, worth every cent that you pay for it. Don't let your mouth write a check that your butt can't cash.
Billy Kingsley Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I'm not going to get into this mindless bickering-I have better things to do then argue with people who can't even type in English! Before you "hat" on me on that, keep in mind that I've been posting on model car message boards since I was 15 years old in 2000 and I have never found the desire or need to purposely spell words incorrectly. All it does is make the person who does that look like a blatant fool-I've never even understood the desire. (Poor grammer, syntax and spelling is excusable if it's the best that can be done, however-at least they are trying!) BUT...Anthony, that Lowrider 18 wheeler that you finished is awesome! How'd you do the trailer? Is that done freehand? The artwork on the trailer is awesome-I'm a big fan of pretty much all of antiquity, and find the history of Rome to be particularly fascinating. (even though I would have preferred more of a documentary then the over dramitized movie-it's still pretty darn cool!) I have not built a lowrider in years-I've built nearly a dozen, all in my formative years as a model builder-and I will be building another (or, perhaps even more then one) soon. And it has nothing to do with a hair-brained challenge, just something I've been wanting to do for myself for quite some time now. Don't bother "hatting" on me-it'll fall on deaf ears.

Now that's some funny stuff!! I darn near wet myself on that one!! Thanks for the chuckle!! Yes, I've seen Mr. Rios' paint jobs in person. The pictures he posted don't do the models justice! Yes, we should do this again sometime...that was fun...
MR BIGGS Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 THANK'S GUY'S..... WHEW...THAT WAS OVER BEFORE IT STARTED.

I just did it to prove a point that you got to respect your elder's no matter what. You are the next generation of builder and you got to give them the respect they deserve they have all been doing this for manny year's and are intitled to their opinion just like every one else is. You got to build what you like and not what other's like you to build. If they nor anyone don't like your build's who care's it's just a model and we , well at least me i build them to keep me sain and love to build them for me. You are still my lil homie no matter what bro. BUT you know i would of whooped your ass. MUCH LOVE Mr Anthony Rios.
