65slotcar Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 i did a search on removing chrome. any new method of removing chrome? is bleach still the safest way? i want to remove all chrome from monogram cobra wheels.
peteski Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 (edited) No new methods I can think of, but there are plenty of older methods which work fine.Bleach is not on the top of my list, BTW.Any lye (sodium hydroxide) based solution works the best: "Purple stuff" or the original Easy Off oven cleaner (not the fume-free stuff). What is good about those chemicals is that they also strip the clear lacquer under the "chrome" (which is actually thin aluminum coating). If you go to the Tips, Tricks and Tutorial section, there is a lengthy sticky thread on how to remove "chrome". Lots of ideas there. Edited April 19, 2016 by peteski
65slotcar Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 thanks peteski, i saw the remove chrome sticky thread after i posted. will have to try Purple stuff.
RAT-T Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I'VE USED THE PURPLE POWER STUFF FROM WALMART, WESLEY'S BLEACH WHITE & GLASS CLEANER. THEY ALL WORKED GREAT FOR ME. THE GLASS CLEANER TOOK A LITTLE LONGER TO WORK THOUGH
