Hippy Ed Posted April 12, 2008 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Hey Y'all, I recently picked up an old AMT Kit of this Kenworth and would like to know which shades of green are called for. The decals are kind of faded & brittle so am considering airbrushing the markings. I'm new to building truck kits. (well, been 25 yrs since I built one) I build US Navy aircraft which is my main poison. What AM parts,etc are available for this kit? As for AM parts, well compared to armor & aircraft, there isn't as much; but there is stuff out there. Just depends on what you want. You can get accurate decals at http://www.jbot.ca/cars/trucks/movinon.shtml The Movin' On KW was a 1973-74 W900 with a Cummins NTC350 & a torsion bar suspension. Brad Lawson from B.R.L. Model Truck Shop has the torsion bar suspension, but it isn't listed on his site. Funny thing, I did the Movin' On KW back in 1976 as that was my favrite program (that & Black Sheep Squadron) It is why I became a truck driver. currently driving a 2000 Pete 379 pullin' 53' reefers. The 60" sleeper closely matches, in fact I think it is, a KW sleeper. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/sb3_res...leepbox%20.html If you have a Revell of Germany W900, you would actually have a closer match to the real thing than with the AMT kit. All you would need with this kit would be a Cummins engine, the torsion bar suspension, and the decals. The sleeper, door handles, grille logo, interior, and other items are more accurate. The AMT kit is more accurate to represent the truck from the movie "In Tandem", which was the pilot for "Movin' On". This link below is a basic run down by Tim on how to accurately build a model of the truck, using the AMT and Revell kits. 19nova72 Posted April 13, 2008 Share Posted April 13, 2008 Hey Guys, I remember watching that TV show when I was a young pup. It was a must see show when my Dad was home off the road. The only problem I see in the brochure is the engine type. The paper states it to be a NTC 350 when in fact it was a 903 V8. I remember watching an episode and seeing a big V8 under the hood and my Dad told me what it was. I don't mean to be a wiseguy but if you are going to build Sonny's truck I think it should be done right. Thanks for letting me rant. Talk at ya later, Rod. I searched and searched and can't find it,I even remember the "boss truck of america" on the cover.I nticed Tim has most of them posted in his movin on site,anyway.If I find it and there is any more to add will do so. SpreadAxle Posted April 14, 2008 Share Posted April 14, 2008 To get a VT-903 Cummins engine, you need an Ertl International Transtar 4270 kit. If not, Model Truck and Fire Apparatus co, which is now AITM(American Industrial Truck Models) had a resin Cummins V903. AITM is supposedly going to make the old Model Truck and Fire Apparatus co product line available in full eventually, so check with him and see if that engine will be released sooner or later. If I remember right, as I still have an old catalog hiding somewhere, it came as a naturally aspirated engine, and you had to add a turbo. A partsbox turbo should do here. Here's a towel... yer wet behind dem ears!! Seriously, Black Sheep Squadron was a WWII Marine Corp Fighter Squadron VMF-214 run by an unruly guy named Gregory "Pappy" Boyington they flew the F4U-1 Corsairs. One of the fiercest fighter squadrons in the So. Pacific. He was shot down in Jan 1943? and was a POW for the rest of the war.
