Jon Haigwood Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I am working on a Lindberg Petty 64 Plymouth. I would like to raise the front about 2" or 3". What is the best way to raise the front end ? The only way I can see is to scratch build some front spindles. Thanks
High octane Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Back in the old days we used to put some plastic blocks/spacers between the tops of the inner front fender wells and the body and this gave us some lift.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 (edited) I just checked out that specific kit. All you have to do is install the spindles upside down. The spindles are shown with the stub axles / backing plates at the TOP position, closer to the upper control arm (it's shown bottom-side up in the instructions). If you simply install the spindles with the stub-axle in the lower position (just turn them over), the stub axle will come DOWN relative to the frame, which RAISES the front of the vehicle. Jon Haigwood Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 On the Petty the stub axles are in the center spindles. In the Color Me Gone and the Ramchargers Dodge kits the stub axles are offset and can be switched. I could always rob them out of a Dodge kit but I am trying to avoid that so I will have something to use when I build them.
mike 51 Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 While I don't have any of those kits...relocating the stub axle on the spindle should do the trick, no?

Ah ha...I stupidly assumed the spindles were the same on the other Lindberg Mopars, which I have, as the ones in the Petty car, which I don't. Sorry. I should know better than to assume anything at this point in life. Scratching some should be very easy, using telescoping tubing...the little tube sized to slot into the control arms. Then just drill in a stub-axle hole wherever you need it to get the ride height you're after.

As it turns out the Petty kit (one of those "kit-in-a-bag" you get at swap meets) is missing the spindles. I do have another Petty kit but I have plans for that one. So I am forced to scratch build some.
