Drake69 Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 I've used it for years and never had a yellowing problem. May have been a problem with a 70's or 80's type formula, but the stuff I've used since the 90's til now has been fine.
Jim N Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 With this like a lot of other modelling matters, it comes down to personal preference. I have used Future for over 20 years and it has never yellowed over white paint. When I use white paint, I make sure it is a lacquer. Lacquers seem to have gray pigments in them. The enamels I have used have had yellow pigments in the paint and these cars yellowed with or without the Future. As far as using an airbrush and runs, you may have to dial back the flow of the Future or move the airbrush further away from the model. I spray with a medium flow and make sure the airbrush is about 6 – 8 inches from the model. I then spray light coats and wait 20 minutes before spraying another coat. It will take about an hour to an hour and a half to build up the Future.
gtx6970 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) 2 bodies painted with the exact same can of paint ( painted about 2 or 3 days apart ) , Duplicolor shot straight from the rattle can. So its a lacquer. I've already been down the enamel clear over white before,,and that's another one I will not do again The one on the right has a future clear coat the one on the left has NO clear of any kind . Its wasn't planned that way,,its just the way it worked out. I'd read about it so wanted to try the stuff and make my own opinion . And the one on the right was 1st to get completed. ( the one on the left sat for about a year or 2 in a clear display case for no reason other than life got in the way of model bench time) To be honest ,,,,,I didn't notice the color differences at all until I had the 2 cars side by side in the case . So the change is subtle,,,but its most definitely changed the brightness of the white . And it might be just a little more noticeable in person. Buts its definitely there. and I will not use it again as a clear top coat. I'll stick to my Urethane clear Not to mention its NOT as shiny as a clear top coat ,,IMO . The one on the left has NO clear coat of any kind. Edited June 17, 2016 by gtx6970
