hi,

does anyone know what year this kit represent . and if its a half ton or 3/4.lug nuts are covered up.the instructions say it was brought out in 1997,looked on google it looks right.but I want more info on it.if anyone knows I would appreciate knowing...thank you.....Chris

I have an earlier non police issue of the kit and it says 1997 Ford Expedition. It has 5 lug alloy wheels which are different than the box art on the police version of the kit. The Expedition was based on the new for 1997 F-150, so I think they were all 1/2 tons.

ok,thank you for the info.mine doesn't show lugs...as you said.question was there ever a 3/4 ton expedigion?.....thank you.... Chris.

Chris, I have the police version and these are the wheels in it.

As Aaron said, I think all these were half tons. The heavier duty was the Excursion, those are based off the F250 and F350 and came with a Powerstroke. You might be able to use the roof (at least as a guide) of the Expedition with a Meng F250 and get an Excursion from it if a heavy duty SUV is what you are looking for. :D

Thank you so much Aaron an Matt on your info.Ford I don't know as much about..I wanted to just make a heavier version of this suv from Ford, but if its a completely different cab then I will just make it a normal Expedition. ...not Police version.this snap is interesting in detail.need to find different rims for it though....any suggestions? .......Chris

Older Excursion closer to the year of the Expedition

I can't really tell by your posts if you already have the kit or not even though it does sound more like you do, but in case you don't, the police version also has the police lights molded into the grille. The stock version Aaron mentioned may be your better choice if you don't have the police version already, even though you could just have the police lights as aftermarket fog lights.

As for wheels, was going through Google of some 1997 Expeditions, something like these don't look half bad.

Oh, and if you do have the police kit and just build it stock, if you wouldn't have any plans for the police goodies, I'll be happy to give them a new home! ;)

Yes I have the poluce version now.those rims looks pretty good.my expedition is going to pull a trailer.but the expedition has to beable to in real life.so was there ever producted a f250 or 3/4 version of the expedition?

as for the poluce parts.somethings I may use.what parts do you need or want?

thanks for the info on the grill.I know what its going to be built as,but I may make it more heavy duty looking.for the trailer.the trailer is a single car open top trailer..I think it should handle it....if it was in real life........Chris

oh thanks for the pictures.

Ford offered the Explorer based on the Ranger, Expedition based on the F150 and Excursion based on the F250/F350. There was little shared by the three, and other than being SUVs they don't really even share much in the looks department. The Expedition came with a 4.6 liter V-8 so it should be able to tow a small to medium size car trailer.

If you are familiar with GM counterparts the Expedition compares to the Tahoe, the Excursion was meant to compete with the Suburban.

As Aaron already said, the Expedition should pull a car trailer with no problem, it would be just like an F150 towing a car trailer.

Anything you wouldn't use in the police parts are fine, there is nothing I really need, I just have a thing for spare police parts!

You are welcome for the info and the pics. :)

You should be able to source those rims from the Revell F-150 Lightning model.....I always liked that setup on the Expeditions.....

As mentioned above, Expeditions only came in half-ton variations. The rear axle was a coil spring setup rather than a leaf spring, but other than that the chassis and even wheelbase is the same as a regular cab, short bed F-150. Expeditions only had V8 engines, but both the 4.6L and 5.4L were available. For correct wheels, you will need to grab a set from the Revell or Lindberg '97 F-150 kits. The wheels supplied in this kit is the incorrect steel wheel combination from a '09+ F-150, which has a 6x135 bolt pattern rather than the Expedition's 5x135 pattern. The Lindberg and Revell kits can also supply a stock grille without the police lights. Although not correct for an Expedition, they would be close enough in scale.

I have considered doing an Excursion conversion with either the Meng kit or pieces  sourced from the resin aftermarket like Trailer Trash Kustoms.  You know I can't just build anything box stock...
