Hello, everyone. Thought I would take a break from the more common subjects and build a true classic! Any tips or comments about the kit, or my work, are always welcome!

I built an original 1964 issue of this as a Slot Car years ago, and it was one of the best kits I've ever built. Everything fit beautifully, my only regret is the customer I built it for insisted on it remaining unpainted. I had to beg him to let me paint what little I did, the driver's plate. If this issue is as good as the original, you're going to love it.

A slot car?! That had to have been a very interesting sight on the track! I know Duesenbergs were said to have been very fast in their day, (I have seen many of them up close and personal, but have never heard one run, let alone seen it move under it's own power, too expensive for the owners to actually, you know, drive it!) but that was taking it to another level! This kit has 1968 & 1974 copyright dates on it, so it is probably pretty close to the one you built, if not a reissue of the same kit.

I  have had the privilege to drive many Classics including 9 (I think ) Duesenbergs.  They are indeed very fast and really live up to their reputation.

I have built this model several times over the years and it is my favorite kit. My words of advice pertinent to building it relate to the brake backing plates. They are quite fiddly and care must be taken with alignment both vertically and horizontally.  I know some people have built jigs for this purpose but I'm not that advanced.  Have fun with this one!  There's lots of reference material out there just under Google images and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club website is great also.

Craig, the one I built was an SJ, and yeah, I don't think many people would have raced a Duesenberg, but it did look awesome flying around his track! Here's a pic of the box, and the completed model. The decals were trashed, he did want them applied but it was impossible. He wanted it built like it would have been back in '64....I couldn't just leave the plastic the way it was, and he wouldn't allow clear or paint, so I polished the plastic until it shined!

That is a really cool model! As far as actually racing a Duesenberg, I have heard several times that quite a few of the big Hollywood stars from that era would regularly get together at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah with their Duesenbergs, Packards, etc., remove the fenders, hood, and whatever else that was easily removable, and race each other with those huge cars! That had to have been quite a sight to see!

Maybe not an SJ, but the Duesenberg brothers were big in racing, and there were a few Duesenberg powered specials before they became collectible, but that is a neat slot car   I do regret that the whole1/24 slot car craze died out before I could get into it..

The Monogram kits are great, and if you're looking for inspiration on what to do with it, here's a great site. http://duesey186.com/Datasheets/frmModelJIndex.htm
