philo426 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) Putting on the horizontal stabilizers. Edited July 16, 2016 by philo426
philo426 Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) Broke out the winghalves and joined them together.one strange thing i have noticed while building this kit is the consistent misalignment of parts by about a sixteenth of an inch.New one on me as on previous vac forms the parts fit quite well.I will fix the problems but it is odd,I think each mirror image of half is larger than its counterpart. philo426 Posted July 18, 2016 Author Posted July 18, 2016 Mounted up the wings and engines.Much gappage to deal with.
kurth Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Nice work, I have often wanted to tackle a large Vac kit. How did you sand the parts after cutting them from the sheet? I have often wonder what the best way to do that would be with such large parts. Did you reinforce the wings with a spar, or make bulkheads for the fuselage?
philo426 Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 I tape 2 sheets of 100 grit sandpaper on a piece of glass and sand the parts in a figure 8 pattern to ensure the parts match up.I installed a laminated piece of plastic through the fuselage to act as a wing spar.Makes for sturdy construction.
philo426 Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Taped and mounted up the canopy section as well as the jet engines .
