Hello all,

Hope all are well. Okay need some guidance in regard to paints and proper choices. Back 35-40 years ago when I was building car and truck models all I used was Testors (or Pactra) enamel paints. It's what I used because it was all I could get. Now I am back into the hobby and have been urged to use lacquers because Testors enamels have changed. So as I have been working on my projects I have chosen lacquers. I am going to be starting a KW W900 truck and have been told that you can't use lacquer over enamels. Is this accurate? My choice is Testors One Coat Inca Gold Lacquer (cab/hood) and Testors Dark Red enamel for the frame, drivetrain, fuel tanks. So not lacquer over enamel. However what kind of clear coat do I use? I have been using Valspar clear coat spray. Should I not use it on lacquer? Does it damage the lacquer? Could use any help thanks.

Do NOT put lacquer over enamel! Enamel over lacquer is OK, but not the opposite.

Krylon has Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating 303A that works pretty well over enamel, lacquer, acrylic, etc.

You shouldn't need to clearcoat Testors One Coat lacquer unless you want to wetsand and polish the finish
