om617 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Anyone have a suggestion to any more recent kits that might have glass that fit the 69 GP? 70 Wildcat or Impala? I can deal with the rear glass, the windsheild is a bit more challenging. Apriciate if someone actually know for sure,it will be expensive to buy kits if it only maby fits lol.
Snake45 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Wasn't the '69 GP on the A-body frame? Might want to look at cars in that line--'69 or '70 Chevelle, '72 GTO, '69 Olds, or maybe even the '70 Monte Carlo. SOMETHING in that neighborhood should work for you.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 The '70 Monte Carlo would probably be your best bet. Steve
GMCMAN52 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm restoring a 69 G/P and I'm using Monograms 69 GTO glass which fits right in both front and rear
Snake45 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm restoring a 69 G/P and I'm using Monograms 69 GTO glass which fits right in both front and rearThere ya go! Interestingly, I have a Monogram '69 GTO glue bomb that's missing glass. Did some testing a while back and their '70 Chevelle SS glass seemed to be a good fit for it. So that glass might work for you too.
BigTallDad Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 For the sake of accuracy...the '69 GP had a "regular" antenna; my '71 GP (1:1) had the antenna imbedded in the windshield.
High octane Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 For the sake of accuracy...the '69 GP had a "regular" antenna; my '71 GP (1:1) had the antenna imbedded in the windshield.Well then, that's a whole new ballgame isn't it?
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 For the sake of accuracy...the '69 GP had a "regular" antenna; my '71 GP (1:1) had the antenna imbedded in the windshield.Incorrect.The '69 Grand Prix was the first car to ever have the antenna in the glass. My 1:1 '69 has it. Steve
BigTallDad Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Incorrect. The '69 Grand Prix was the first car to ever have the antenna in the glass. My 1:1 '69 has it. Steve I stand corrected; the images on the web were not very good.I don't know if the OP will address that or not, but it's an unusual detail that's worth pointing out. om617 Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 John and Richard that is great news, those are fairly easy to find and reasonable,Raymond and Steve i dont mind info, just pour it in here. When we first are into nitpicking, does the air-cleaner have one or two snorkles for 69? Pictures vary online.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 but it's an unusual detail that's worth pointing out. That it is, but I think it might be difficult to replicate in 1/25th. But at least this way you know not to add an external antenna. When we first are into nitpicking, does the air-cleaner have one or two snorkles for 69? Pictures vary online. All I can tell you is that the "Model J" had the 400 cubic inch engine which had a single snorkel. The MPC kit depicts a "Model SJ" which was equipped with the 428 cube engine. There is the possibility that it had a dual snorkel, but I doubt it. I believe all of these cars were equipped with air conditioning & there would have been little room for another snorkel. If you need any more info on the '69 Grand Prix Tommy, just ask. I have a 1:1 Model J sitting in my garage. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Ran across this video on "you tube". If nothing else, it will give you pretty much every available color option. It warms my heart to see this many of these cars still around. Steve http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhzcTt86_aY
om617 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks for the info. I am using this article as preferance at the moment GP SJ What a great car and also a manual,i bet it`s pretty fast, this was before the low compression nonsense. Here is a picture of the engine, also it got AC. Pic is small but you can clearly see the twin snorkels.
GMCMAN52 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 (edited) That dual air cleaner looks like the ones from the 70 -73 Firebird. That was due to the ram air set up. the old MPC kits of the early Bird had that air cleaner Edited August 16, 2016 by GMCMAN52 wrong info
carman1 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 The glass from the MPC 72 GTO works fine, I just restored both 69 and 70 Grand Prixs an that is what was used , The dual snorkel air cleaner can also be found in some Monogram 1968, 1969 GTOs
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Here is a picture of the engine, also it got AC. Pic is small but you can clearly see the twin snorkels. I've looked around and have noticed a few cars with the dual snorkel on line.So it quite possibly could have been an option.Being as the kit pieces snorkel is proportioned all wrong anyway, it might be a good excuse to replace it & add an extra one.The kit air cleaner has a straight round snorkel. The actual 1:1 is tapered & oval shaped. Steve
om617 Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 What is the color called on your car Steven? It looks really good.
StevenGuthmiller Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 What is the color called on your car Steven? It looks really good. "Crystal Turquoise".MCW carries it under the Chevrolet name of "Azure Turquoise".Same code, same color. Steve
om617 Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 "Crystal Turquoise".MCW carries it under the Chevrolet name of "Azure Turquoise".Same code, same color. SteveThanks! I might go with that color on a 69 Bonneville. After some glaring on Google i get a bit unsure, does this color come in two shades?
