HomerS Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Cincinnati Gardens - Modeled after the Toronto Maple Leafs Gardens in 1949, it was built on the outskirts of northern Cincinnati. It's been the home to concerts, rodeos, minor league hockey, UC and Xavier basketball and the Cincinnati Royals (now the Sacramento Kings). A two local auction houses....one auctioned off the center ice scoreboard and practice rink boards, while today the other one auctioned off the Legends Museum memorabilia. Operation of the building stopped Wednesday. Port Authority bought it for the land to be redeveloped.Dayton Hara Arena - today was the last die cast show. There was a toy show scheduled for November, but due to a family dispute having drained the funds over the past TWENTY YEARS, it was decided to close the building. Built in 1964 north of Dayton, it's last tenant was a FHL ("A" level minor league hockey team). There is a comic book show next weekend but then that is it. Reportedly it may be raised for a new fairgrounds.
espo Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 All in the name of progress. Next they'll do like Kansas: Give some wealthy developer a couple million dollar tax credit so they can build something. Since the state is giving them all this monies so they can build something and keep the income they will need to increase your home owners tax to offset the lost revenue, and the developer will skip town before they have to pay back the state. The rich just keep getting richer, and we just have to keep paying for it.
Harry P. Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 We're not losing a stadium, just the name. The White Sox stadium's official name is U.S. Cellular field, but the naming rights are about to run out. Next year the stadium will be called Guaranteed Rate Filed, which I officially nominate as the worst name for a sports stadium everOf course, we all call the place Sox Park–nobody uses the "official" name.
JTalmage Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Sucks about the two arenas here. I remember going to the circus, disney on ice, and a hockey game at Cincy Gardens when I was really young.
