In looking for shots of the interior of Unilite cab Petes I've noticed there are two vents on the dash that are there sometimes and gone others, what is the function of these vents and what years and/or options are necessary to have them? My truck will not have A/C if that matters.

Note the round vents on the dash above the switch plate:

Note the same style of dash with no vents:

I've always "assumed" that these vents were for defrost. I have a picture of a 69 that has them, and the pictures of 68 and older that I have doesn't have them. It looks almost like your second picture still has a type of vent grills in that spot. The ones that I have either have nothing or a fan mounted in that spot.

Yeah, I noticed those flat vents after I posted the picture and I saw a ton of pics with a dash mounted fan too. I didn't like the way the interior fit in the cab so I cut it apart and changed it to a flat floor Italeri style interior with separate door panels and stuff so I wanted to try to include some more detail if it was appropriate.

These are for defrost or a/c. They turn and sort of swivel. I would assume the flat mounted vents were non ac trucks

One of the pictures that I have of a 69 has these vents without the control levers and has a roof a/c unit with the a/c vents in the ceiling. So you may be right Sam. These three control levers may have had to do with a/c.

I also noticed that the 68 that I have pictures of without dash vents has a very simple heater box with manual doors much like an H model Mack.

Maybe Tim will be along to shed some light on this.

Now I know this is a newer truck, but im just going off the 87 359 that i drove, it didnt have the controls at the vents, but those were the only vents in the truck besides the under dash vents

Thank you Sam, I guess I will save them for an A/C truck then.
