Superpeterbilt Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 This may be a topic for the car guys, but has there ever been an accurate 460 kitted? I know the AMT Ford F350s are supposed to have one, but its actually a 390. My searches of the forum havent turned up anything. I found a Thunderbird kit on ebay that says its a 460. Is that it?
Chuck Most Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 The Monogram F250 and F350 have a 460, it is an '87-'91 style with EFI but it could be backdated to an earlier type fairly easily. It is 1:24 scale. In 1:25, the Revell '69 Torino Cobra has about the best 385-series big block ever made in kit form. I would go with the one from the Torino. If I'm not misaken, Calnaga castings does a pretty nice Lima 385- they list it as a 429 but the 429 and 460 were essentially the same engine.

Is that the revell 69 Torino talladega, or the 70 torino cobra? Or the AMT 69 torino cobra?
Chuck Most Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) Revell Torino Cobra... I guess it's a '70 now that I think of it. Revell also did a 70 Torino GT but I'm not sure if that had a 385-series big block in it or not. Edited October 20, 2016 by Chuck Most

Chuck Most Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Yeah- 427 would be an FE. Altogether different design than the 385 and pretty close to what's already in the AMT kit (though more detailed).

Chuck Most Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 That would be my choice, or order the 385 from Calnaga.

Superpeterbilt Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 You're very welcome, Terry! That Calnaga engine is a nice piece. Im gonna go that route.
Fat Brian Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 The 70 GT and Cobra kits have the same 429 engine but the Promodeler GT has some great aftermarket valve covers and headers that the Cobra doesn't. I can't remember if all those parts are in the reissue that's out now or not.
Chuck Most Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I kind of wondered if all the Revell kits had the 429 but one was mis-identified. I've only ever had the Cobra so I didn't want to say for sure it had the same engine or not.
