StrangerBandFan Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Hi folks, I'm colleting resources and knowledge to build a 1/6 "somewhat from scratch" top fueler. I'm having a hard time finding an engine kit and rubber tires. I see Revell made a blown hemi back in the 60's (?), but can't find any kits on Ebay or elsewhere. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this forum and model building. I'm currently doing the Tamiya 1/12 Ford GT40 and it's coming along as I learn a lot.
StrangerBandFan Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 Hi Daddyfink, I'm doing 1/6". I found enough engine parts to put together most of it on Shapeways by TDR Innovations today. I think I'll go with that as a start, but if you have any suggestions on other parts, I'd be happy to hear. Thanks for your reply.
Daddyfink Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Well, Monogram had the 1/8th scale kits and vintage racing accessories, but as far as 1/6th, I have no idea who made anything that size. As for the HEMI you are thinking about, it might be the MPC kits, later repackaged by Parma R/C parts, and that is supposed to be 1/10th
StrangerBandFan Posted November 24, 2016 Author Posted November 24, 2016 Thanks for checking into it for me, Daddyfink.
Force Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) The Liberty Classics metal/plastic engines (some of them also released by Revell as unassembled kits) are 1:6th scale. They had both a blown Dodge/Plymouth 426 Hemi and a blown Ford 427 SOHC old style Top Fuel engine they will work fine for older cars.I bought both back when they were first released some years ago but they can't be that hard to find as I think they still make them. Here are a few I found on ebay right now.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Top-Fuel-Dragster-Engine-Replica-1-6th-Scale-Die-Cast-Automotive-Accessory-/331894277602?hash=item4d4670c5e2:g:ZUkAAOSwXeJXctPfhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Liberty-Classics-Hemi-Top-Fuel-Dragster-Engine-Replica-1-6th-Scale-Die-Cast-/322333502403?hash=item4b0c92ebc3:g:KUkAAOSwo4pYMErT Edited November 28, 2016 by Force
Rider Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 That will be one big subject when you are done.
Force Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Yes it will be large, I have some of the 1:6th scale engines and they are quite big.
