Hi guys,

I started with this kit as my first car. I've read a lot of technics and tricks from this and form other sites.

Yesterday evening I made the cleanings, glued some parts and a few minutes ago I made the first coat of primer.

Here's the pics:

 Duuuhhhh!,Sorry bout dat. Where in Gods name did you find a Trabant? Aren't they like Russian cars or somethin? Or are you even in the U.S.A.?No big deal if your not, just that a Trabant is not an everday site on American streets.

I'm from Hungary and Trabant is a German car. East-German.

I was 19 when I bought this. It's a lovely car. Small, cheap, easy to repair, so ideal for a young boy. Unfortunatelly, you could barely use them nowdays because of enviromental rules.

maybe, but I think, the chassis is not enough for it..

you can guess, why it's only 600 kgs ;)

and the hungarian laws could let you to make this kind of modifications

unfortunatelly you couldn't do any modifications without any plans and licence

and this kind of licence cost a lots of money, sometimes more than the car worth

that's Hungary, man!

ok

here are the first problems

I think, I made a mistake and the 3rd coat is not enough thin

but I can mend it, I only have to wait a few hours

 Baz,If you don't need to strip it, Just try holding the paint can under some hot water for a few minutes. this will raise the pressure in the can and help thin the paint.Hold the can just a little farther away from the model, and start spraying just before you actually get to it.this should help to prevent it from running, and paint build up on the model. just take your time, It'll come to you with practice!;)

oh, I'm too lazy, so there's no way to strip it

sandpaper will do this job

I hope ;)

I've placed the can to hot water before

I think, I wanted to cover all the primer with the first spray and that was the problem

and I know: practice makes me perfect

George, I think Basz was saying this was his 1st Car MODEL...A little translation trouble from Hungarian to American English...But WAAAYYYY better than my Hungarian...

Basz,

I hate when that happens... Beautiful blue color...But it looks like sanding will just remove runs but the next coat od paint will only make the overall coating that much thicker, and it is already too thick. I would probably chemically strip the paint off using Castrol Super Clean ( I don't know what is available in your area, but many heavy duty cleaners will work). Then I recommend starting over.

I DO NOT recommend using "Orange Blast" cleaner, I have an AMT Supra which is rather curled up from it.

Basz,

Try www.briansmodelcars.com

They have a great tutorial on painting. From priming to actual paint. Also, other sections of "how to"s. It might save you some experimenting time.

Hey Bazs- for a first time job it looks great. I like the color combination, and your work seems to be top notch.

I second that!! For a first time effort, you're doing a great job!

That's an interesting take on the two tone....................very nice!-------- and it looks like something Chevy should have offered for '56! ;)

I wanted to use this as a wire in the engine bay, but it's too thick

IMGP6991.jpg

and the "original" distributor is very small for it

so I made a new distributor, got some new wires, I hope, the engine will be ready this evening

IMGP6992.jpg

btw this is the first part, I was ever made

but I have no idea where to place it...

 Baz,it goes right behind the carburater, there should be a spot in the intake manifold for the distributer shaft right at the centerline of the engine block. you drilled out a new distributer pretty good,Keep up the good work!:lol:

thanks, but I know the original place of it

the problem is, that my new one is a bit bigger than the original one

so I'm gonna cheat :lol::huh::D

this engine makes me nervous :)

I know, that nothing on it's place, but it's gonna good for me for the first time

I usually see s4 engines here ;)
