bazs Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Hi guys, I started with this kit as my first car. I've read a lot of technics and tricks from this and form other sites. Yesterday evening I made the cleanings, glued some parts and a few minutes ago I made the first coat of primer. Here's the pics: I have to make some wetsand a few hours later.
george 53 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Wow! a 56 Nomad was your 1st car!!!??? Man are/were you lucky! Most guys would KILL to have somethin like that as a 1st set of wheels!I'm SOOOOOOOOO jealose!
bazs Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 actually my first real car was a Trabant 601s it was 10 years ago btw some new pics second coat of primer (now it's white) some color paint on other parts
george 53 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Duuuhhhh!,Sorry bout dat. Where in Gods name did you find a Trabant? Aren't they like Russian cars or somethin? Or are you even in the U.S.A.?No big deal if your not, just that a Trabant is not an everday site on American streets.
bazs Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 I'm from Hungary and Trabant is a German car. East-German. I was 19 when I bought this. It's a lovely car. Small, cheap, easy to repair, so ideal for a young boy. Unfortunatelly, you could barely use them nowdays because of enviromental rules.
george 53 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Hell Baz,Just drop you a small block Chevy in it an go terrorize some Porsches!!!!
bazs Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 maybe, but I think, the chassis is not enough for it.. you can guess, why it's only 600 kgs and the hungarian laws could let you to make this kind of modifications unfortunatelly you couldn't do any modifications without any plans and licence and this kind of licence cost a lots of money, sometimes more than the car worth that's Hungary, man!
bazs Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 (edited) ok here are the first problems I think, I made a mistake and the 3rd coat is not enough thin but I can mend it, I only have to wait a few hours Edited May 11, 2008 by bazs
george 53 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Baz,If you don't need to strip it, Just try holding the paint can under some hot water for a few minutes. this will raise the pressure in the can and help thin the paint.Hold the can just a little farther away from the model, and start spraying just before you actually get to it.this should help to prevent it from running, and paint build up on the model. just take your time, It'll come to you with practice!
bazs Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 oh, I'm too lazy, so there's no way to strip it sandpaper will do this job I hope I've placed the can to hot water before I think, I wanted to cover all the primer with the first spray and that was the problem and I know: practice makes me perfect
MojaveRacer208 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 George, I think Basz was saying this was his 1st Car MODEL...A little translation trouble from Hungarian to American English...But WAAAYYYY better than my Hungarian... Basz, I hate when that happens... Beautiful blue color...But it looks like sanding will just remove runs but the next coat od paint will only make the overall coating that much thicker, and it is already too thick. I would probably chemically strip the paint off using Castrol Super Clean ( I don't know what is available in your area, but many heavy duty cleaners will work). Then I recommend starting over. I DO NOT recommend using "Orange Blast" cleaner, I have an AMT Supra which is rather curled up from it. Richard
m408 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Basz, Try www.briansmodelcars.com They have a great tutorial on painting. From priming to actual paint. Also, other sections of "how to"s. It might save you some experimenting time.
bazs Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 finally the paint must go, so new primer, new paint it is now starts to looking like an engine not perfect, but for the first, I think it's good but how will I manage this
bazs Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 btw thanks for the ideas about the painting I know BMC, but I want everything right now now I know, I must be patient
george 53 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Ere ya go Daddy-O iz loookin good now!!!!! I agree with Rich, thats a really nice color for that car. from the 1st pics it looks like you were gonna 2-tone it,are ya?
bazs Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 yes, of course it's gone be 2-tone the 2nd color is gona be beige
george 53 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Woah, Boz,Great save! Its gonna be killer for a 1st model! Your doin great Dude.Keep it up,you go Daddy0!
Harold Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Hey Bazs- for a first time job it looks great. I like the color combination, and your work seems to be top notch.
bazs Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 thanks this is gonna be the engine need some more to do
MrObsessive Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Hey Bazs- for a first time job it looks great. I like the color combination, and your work seems to be top notch. I second that!! For a first time effort, you're doing a great job! That's an interesting take on the two tone....................very nice!-------- and it looks like something Chevy should have offered for '56!
bazs Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 I wanted to use this as a wire in the engine bay, but it's too thick and the "original" distributor is very small for it so I made a new distributor, got some new wires, I hope, the engine will be ready this evening btw this is the first part, I was ever made but I have no idea where to place it...
george 53 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Baz,it goes right behind the carburater, there should be a spot in the intake manifold for the distributer shaft right at the centerline of the engine block. you drilled out a new distributer pretty good,Keep up the good work!
bazs Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 thanks, but I know the original place of it the problem is, that my new one is a bit bigger than the original one so I'm gonna cheat
bazs Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) this engine makes me nervous I know, that nothing on it's place, but it's gonna good for me for the first time I usually see s4 engines here Edited May 14, 2008 by bazs
